Description

About the role:

Your role is to achieve a post-doc work on: Multi-dimension resource allocation in 6G O-RAN evolution. It is attached to the ANR project HEIDIS.

Context

Disaggregated 6G O-RAN architecture allows to combine solutions from different vendors. The openness of 6G O-RAN architecture allows Orange to integrate its own algorithms.

The new architecture proposed by the O-RAN Alliance defines 3 levels of decision making (real time, near real time and non-real time) in a cloud based distributed architecture that also should take into consideration the compute resource allocation together with radio resources.

O-RAN natively support AI/ML and optimization algorithms for both communication and computation resources.

Objective

This work aims at studying and developing multi-dimensional resource allocation mechanisms in the context of 6G O-RAN networks.

It should take into consideration the support of both vertical communication across entities (e.g., for the radio resource communications between distributed and centralized units, and between O-CUs and the orchestration layer) and horizontal communications among resource controllers, happening not only at the orchestration layer but also at the near-real time scheduling level.

  • Identify performance and load metrics and KPIs
  • Joint radio/transport and compute resources allocation and scheduling
  • Propose evolution of O-RAN open interfaces for supporting targeted use cases
  • The expected outcomes are:
  • Identify the most relevant use cases in the context of the HEIDIS project
  • Develop a model that addresses both radio/transport and computing resources
  • Propose and implement algorithms based on Mathematical Optimization and AI
  • Performance evaluation and analysis
  • Final report

About you:

Post-doc with skills in:

  • Mathematical Optimization
  • Online optimization
  • Network virtualization / radio access networks
  • Fluent technical reading and writing, development skills
  • Some knowledge in AI techniques
