    GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Contracts Engineer/Specialist will be responsible to support the Senior Contracts Specialist or Contracts Manager primarily in Change and Subcontract Management matters relating to the Main Contract with Subsea7 Clients and Consortium (if applicable).

    The Contracts Engineer/Specialist reports day-to-day to the Senior Contracts Engineer/Specialist or Senior/Contracts Manager (If applicable) and functionally to the AMEC Head of Contracts.

    The position is based in France or Portugal within an office environment. However, candidates may be required to undertake ad-hoc site visits to other Subsea7 locations, or to Client, Partner or Subcontractors in the African, Middle East and Caspian (AMEC) region or other locations.

    SPECIFIC JOB SCOPE

    Act as a key support team member in the Contract Management Team and participate in commercial/contractual strategic discussions, investigate, manage, and develop robust Contract Change or Variation Orders including supporting documents for Claims, to ensure and maximise Subsea7 profitability by contractually protecting Subsea7 rights of remedy for Claims and Changes, learn and develop general and overall contract management best practices to develop sound letter writing, Change and Variation management and preparation, negotiations skills to support subcontracting functions, understand and develop a sound knowledge of Main Contract and marine insurances and contracting principles.

    Provide support to the Subcontract Management Team in relation to all pre and post award SCM activities, develop and understand the key and mandatory flow downs from the Main Contract with the Client required to be included in key subcontract packages to ensure Subsea7 is adequately and strongly protected against Claims and Variations from Subcontractors.

    Main Contract Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Uphold and maintain Subsea7 core values: Safety, Integrity, Sustainability, Performance, Collaboration, and Innovation.
    • Preparation of an in-depth analysis of the Main Contract terms and conditions and identification of Subsea7 obligations and potential risks and opportunities. Assist in the compilation for dissemination of said analysis to project team, regional and group legal and contract's function and regional business unit management via Contract awareness sessions to the project team (onshore and offshore).
    • When required prepare "flow down" of Main Contract terms and conditions for inclusion in Subcontracts. Support and advise project Supply Chain Specialist regarding negotiation of Subcontract contractual/commercial terms and conditions under the guidance and supervision of the Project Contracts Lead. During execution of subcontracts liaise with Supply Chain Specialist to ensure that Variations rechargeable to Client are captured.
    • Assist in the arrangement, administration and update of registers for all project bonds, guarantees and insurances in accordance with Main Contract obligations.
    • Participation in both internal and external project meetings dealing with contractual /commercial issues.
    • Ensure that rigorous standards are set and maintained in terms of quality of project correspondence and associated action tracking.
    • Monitor key Contractor, Subcontractors and Client deliverables as well as identification of risks.
    • Liase with project team in monitoring payment milestones, preparation of milestone completion certificates, their associated invoices and updates to the invoice register.
    • Proactively assist in managing the management of change process, including the maintenance of registers, with Alliance Partners and Client with a view to maximising opportunity for positive project upside.
    • Preparation of periodical (weekly/monthly) and ad hoc reporting.
    • Active participation in project risk review sessions.
    • Familiarize and ensure compliance with all relevant Subsea7 processes and procedures as set out in the New Starter Checklist and BMS: Internal VOR approvals and compliance with Subsea7 financial authority levels, Completion and Project Close-out activities, ensuring receipt of Completion Certificates from the Client, settlement of final accounts with the Client and subcontractors.
    • Contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea7.
    • Foster a culture of risk mitigation and optimisation of opportunity within the project team.
    • Creation and maintenance of project records within the Global Contracts Database (CDMS) throughout full life of project.
    • Participate in training and Contracts Awareness sessions for non-Contracts personnel.
    • Perform such other contractual activities as required by Project Contracts Lead and/or Manager.
    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

    General Education:

    Candidates should be educated to degree level in a Quantity Surveying, Law (LLM/LLB)/, Project Management, or similar business discipline. Other recognised qualifications may be acceptable if combined with extensive relevant experience.

    Skills

    Technical:
    • High standard of written and spoken English is essential for this role.
    • Focussed in maximising the commercial value to the Subsea7 on all relevant contracts and subcontracts.
    • A strong and relevant understanding of the technical requirements required for transportation and installation of offshore operations for both SURF and Conventional work scopes.
    • Competency in Microsoft Office is essential. Experience with SAP Ariba would be preferred.
    Interpersonal:

    The position will require candidates to interact on a multinational perspective with people at various levels within the organisation and with Client and Subcontractor representatives. It is therefore essential that candidates be in possession of excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and leadership skills in a multicultural environment.

    Experience of the ability to effectively negotiate is deemed a pre-requisite for the role. Strong co-ordination, organisational and liaison skills with the ability to seek and gain consensus solutions to business issues and challenges.

    Self-Management:The position calls for a proactive and self-motivated individual who has the adaptability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team as the case dictates. Proven organisational skills are required as well as the ability to review work methods in support of continually developing smart and efficient work methods.

    EXPERIENCE

    Work Experience:Relevant previous experience in the offshore oil and gas industry in a similar role is essential with a minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in the subsea sector is preferable. Previous experience/involvement in subcontract management support will be a distinct advantage.

    Managerial Experience:

    Ability to identify and effectively prioritise workload and key issues of self and team within a dynamic and high-paced work environment.

    KNOWLEDGE:
    • General skills and knowledge base in the field of Contracts /Legal/Commercial is a distinct advantage.
    • Experience of operating within an international arena would be a distinct advantage.
