We challenge ourselves to create an inclusive way of working where we are open to new ideas, empowered to take risks and fearless to bring our authentic selves to work.

The team you'll be part of

Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems.

This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.

What you will learn and contribute to

The team of Network Systems and Security Research (NSSR) lab of Bell Labs, located in Massy (20km south of Paris), welcomes each year a small number of outstanding visiting PhD students and Masters II (or equivalent) graduate students for their mandatory internship.

Inside NSSR the Mobile Network Systems department works (among other topics) on solutions to automate and simplify access for any company to 5G/6G services.

In order to allow companies to benefit from 5G and in future 6G virtual private network offers, it is necessary to provide them with simplified access to these offers.

This access needs to scale for thousands of businesses of all sizes. It is therefore necessary to set up an automation of both the expression of need and the service offer.

The objective of the project is to provide the ability for a company to express its need for a 5G/6G network in non-technical terms and to obtain the deployment of a 5G/6G virtual network (or 5G network slice) in a few clicks.

As part of this project the system needs the ability to automatically build a coverage map of where a service requested by a company could be deployed based on data from mobile networks deployments (base stations locations and feature set, edge data centers etc.).

This means the ability to extract the relevant knowledge from thousands of base station parameters to link them to service capabilities and be able to visualize the outcome on a map.

During the first phase of the internship, the student will learn the main concepts around 5G mobile networks, graph-databases and will build/enhance such a database based on data to be extracted from a dataset.
