Description du sujet de thèse
Les MXenes, des carbures ou des nitrures bi-dimensionnels (2D) mono- ou multi-couches, constituent l'un des domaines de recherche sur les matériaux 2D en croissance la plus rapide. Leurs propriétés physiques et structurelles exceptionnelles sont prometteuses pour nombre d'applications, incluant stockage d'énergie, super-capacités, capteurs de gaz et blindage électromagnétique. Le projet de doctorat a pour objectif la synthèse de carbures de métaux de transition bi-dimensionnels (MXenes) avec diverses terminaisons halogénées de surface, la caractérisation et la compréhension de leurs propriétés, et leur mise en forme pour obtenir des couches minces de haute qualité, afin d'explorer la possibilité d'intercalation de métaux de transition des dernières colonnes dans des conditions d'ultra-vide (UHV).
Le projet de doctorat s'attaquera aux tâches suivantes : optimisation des conditions de synthèse pour produire des MXenes multi-couches avec des terminaisons de surface halogénées ; optimisation du procédé de délamination visant à séparer les feuillets de MXenes ; caractérisation des matériaux synthétisés par diffraction X, microscopie électronique à balayage (MEB), spectroscopies XPS et Raman, etc. ; étude de la solubilité des MXenes halogénés dans divers solvants ; optimisation des procédés de fabrication pour obtenir des couches minces de haute qualité par dépôt tournette (« spin coating ») ou par pulvérisation (« spray coating »); étude des propriétés électroniques des couches minces produites.
Contexte de travail
Le LMGP est un laboratoire de Grenoble INP associé au CNRS, situé sur le site de Minatec. La recherche porte sur la science des matériaux et les matériaux fonctionnels, organisée suivant trois thèmes : (1) couches minces fonctionnelles et nano-ingéniérie de urface, (2) interfaces entre matériaux et matière biologique et (3) Nanomatériaux et hétérostructures qvancées. L'activité et l'expertise de l'équipe (3) sont centrées sur la synthèse chimique et la croissance cristalline de matériaux de basse dimensionnalité, dans le but d'élucider la nucléation et les mécanismes de croissance de ces objets, ainsi que de déterminer et contrôler leurs propriétés physiques, morphologiques et structurelles à l'échelle nano. L'équipe matériaux nanolamellaires et 2D est spécialisée dans l'étude des procédés d'exfoliation de phases MAX et MAB pour produire des matériaux bidimensionnels (2D). La caractérisation des matériaux est assurée par microscopies MET, AFM et MEB, spectroscopie Raman, diffraction des rayons X et par l'utilisation de grands instruments tels que l'ILL (neutrons) et le synchrotron Européen (ESRF).
Ce doctorat est affecté dans le cadre d'un projet de recherche collaborative Franco-Allemand financé par l'ANR et la DFG, entre le Laboratoire des Matériaux et du Génie Physique (LMGP), le Synchrotron Européen (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, ESRF, Grenoble, France) et l'Université de Duisbourg-Essen (UDE, Duisbourg, Allemagne). Ce projet, basé sur une approche multi-disciplinaire, a pour objectif de développer des matériaux magnétiques bi-dimensionnels en utilisant des MXenes. Dans le cadre de son contrat, le doctorant sera amené à effectuer des séjours de courte durée à l'Université de Duisbourg ou dans de grands instruments (installations synchrotron) pour la caractérisation avancée des échantillons.
