Description

Aero/Aerothermodynamics, GNC and Flight Software Technology Project Engineer in the Core Future Launchers Preparatory Programme (STS-FF), Future Launchers Preparatory Programme (FLPP), Future Preparation, Directorate of Space Transportation.

You will support the ramp-up of system, service-oriented and technology push projects to be implemented in the roadmap for future space transportation preparation.


Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • devising technical consolidation and programmatic build-up to reach Technology Readiness Level 6 and Integration Readiness Level 3 for identified technologies;
- drafting statements of work for the relevant Future Launchers Technology Programme (FLPP) technology activities, with internal support and technical assistance, as well as supporting the subsequent bidding process;
- managing and participating in the evaluation of tender submissions and the implementation of the corresponding contracts, in collaboration with the Procurement Department and other relevant ESA departments;
- organising and supporting negotiations of the contracts with industry;
- managing the relevant contracted activities, including the assessment of deliverables and the timely delivery of technological developments; preparing and organising required reviews/key points;
- supporting FLPP-wide system and technology activities, in particular for aero/aerothermodynamics, GNC and flight software, especially for the drafting of requirements and the development of the synergies between technology activities and the demonstrators, or with the space transportation developments;
- contributing to the drafting of relevant programmatic documents such as roadmaps, work plans, relevant ESA committee papers (for PB/IPC/AC), procurement proposals and programme proposals;
- assessing the needs and potential of new technologies for space transportation from both within Europe and beyond Europe;
- providing appropriate support to the FLPP Core Future Launchers Preparatory Programme Manager;
- providing support for Future Space Transportation Preparation technology and demonstration roadmaps in collaboration with the flagship demonstrator team, with respect to system concept needs, and in particular for aero/aerothermodynamics, GNC and flight software;
- supporting diversification of space transportation stakeholders through spin-in/spin-off in order to strengthen the Future Space Transportation Preparation technology and demonstration roadmap;

  • Supporting the organisation of FIRST (Future Innovation and Research in

Space Transportation:
open competition calls for technology disruptors maturation) procurement actions, including the organisation of related events;
- communicating when relevant the outcome of technology maturations, internally in ESA and externally at workshops and conferences.

You will be assisted by project control, contracts, legal and quality staff and supported by engineers from the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality as well as from national agencies within the FLPP Technical Assistance scheme.


Technical competencies
Good knowledge and experience on Aero/Aerothermodynamics, GNC and Flight Software
Multi-disciplinary knowledge of area of responsibility
Experience in Technology maturation projects
Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews, knowledge of industrial costs and schedule aspects
Space Transportation system development and Product Assurance standards
Complex project risk management processes
Knowledge of other technical domains with interfaces to own area of responsibility
Knowledge of technologies for Launchers, In-orbit transportation systems, Orbital transfer Vehicles and Return from space
Knowledge of ESA and industrial development, verification and procurement processes
