About the team/job
EMBL Grenoble specializes in fundamental research in structural biology, and in developing state-of-the art instrumentation, methods and services.

The site is located on the dynamic European Photon and Neutron science campus (EPN campus), together with other international and French research institutions.


For our laboratory in Grenoble, we are looking for a Laboratory Support Officer to work as part of our Laboratory Support Services on a full-time basis (39 hours per week) for an initial 6-month contract.


Your role

  • Ensuring operativity and maintenance of shared scientific equipment, including but not limited to chromatography systems (FPLC), autoclaves, cell disruptors, (ultra)centrifuges, spectrophotometers, laminar flow hoods, and other shared scientific instrumentation;
  • Training of newcomers on shared scientific instrumentation;
  • Budget administration relative to the purchase and consumption of shared plastic and glassware, research devices (i.e. cryoelectron microscopy grids), and chemicals, also involving price negotiation with vendors and everyday operations such as enter delivery notes into SAP to validate invoices.
  • Regular meetings and communication with all Unit wetlab research technicians as well as group and team leaders for the coordination of the wetlab activities within the Unit.
  • Everyday laboratory services operations including but not limited to: rinse, dry and store glassware, plasticware and other laboratory materials; produce media and buffers according to standard protocols, cast agars; preparation of products for sterilization and autoclave operation; autoclaving and disposal of biological waste; management, control and safe storage of laboratory solvents and gases.
  • Additional various tasks related to your role in the laboratory may be required.

You have

  • Education and confirmed expertise in molecular/structural biology and biochemistry.
  • Previous work experience as a research technician in the above areas of life science.
  • Proven technical, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to perform routine tasks.
  • Reliable, independent and highquality work.

You might also have

  • Native French or English speaker with good knowledge of other languages is an asset.
