OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST


The Diversity of Cultural Expressions Entity promotes the diversity of cultural expressions and the creative economy as vectors for sustainable development.

Its mission is to ensure the effective implementation and monitoring of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the 1980 Recommendation concerning the Status of the Artist.

The Entity fosters international cooperation by providing assistance to governments around the world to design, monitor, and evaluate policies.

It also provides support to the sound decision-making of the Convention's governing bodies through knowledge sharing and data collection, analysis, and distribution.


Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture, the general supervision of the Chief of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions Entity, and the direct supervision of the Head of the Statutory Meetings and Research Unit, the Associate Project Officer will contribute to the development and execution of activities to monitor the implementation of the 2005 Convention by its Parties through research, the production and management of knowledge and publications, in the framework of the project "ReShaping policies for creativity and artistic freedom" (Phase III UNESCO/Sida project), funded by Sweden.

Long Description
In particular, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
Support the management and analysis of the quadrennial periodic reports to the 2005 Convention by categorizing them in accordance with the Monitoring Framework of the Convention, key transversal themes and UNESCO's priorities;
Assist in the maintenance and development of the Policy Monitoring Platform, which monitors the implementation of the 2005 Convention around the world on the basis of the quadrennial periodic reports to the 2005 Convention submitted by the Parties, including the identification of one innovative measure for each of the areas of monitoring of the Convention and drafting of a revised presentation highlighting how these measures contribute to implementing both the 2005 Convention and targeted Sustainable Development Goals;
Long Description

Contribute to and support the preparation of the next edition of the Global Report "ReIShaping policies for creativity" by undertaking research activities, compiling and analysing information and data, drafting cases studies and assisting the organization of the Editorial Boards;
Contribute to the promotion and dissemination of the Global Report through the development of communication materials, as well as support to promotional events organized at the national, regional and international levels;

Participate in the preparation of capacity-building tools and guidelines on policy monitoring to support the Parties, civil society organisations, UNESCO Field Offices and members of the 2005 Convention Expert Facility in collaboration with other colleagues.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education


Advanced University degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in the field of cultural policies and/or cultural and creative industries or a related area.

Work Experience


A minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience in monitoring and/or evaluating cultural policies or the cultural and creative industries.

Languages

Excellent knowledge of either English or French and good knowledge of the other language.
