Tronox is looking for a Product Development Scientist for its Research Center in France
Tronox is a major TiO2 producer with a global reach and the most vertically integrated company in the industry.

Tronox is the world leader in the design and the manufacturing of Ultrafine TiO2, specialty anatase and titanium chemicals.

New materials are developed and scaled-up every year to respond to the growing demand of our customers in environmental catalysis and other markets.


About the Role
As a Product Development Scientist, you will conduct research projects to support the execution of Tronox's Specialty Chemicals strategy.

Your focus will be on ensuring the ongoing success of the business unit goals and on maintaining a safe working environment.


You will be responsible for:

  • Driving the execution of specific projects to support Tronox's Specialty Chemicals business
  • Developing a deep understanding of our processes to ensure the desired performance and highest consistency of the manufactured products
  • Actively participating in the process of development of new products including the early stages of development, scaleup, industrialization, and technology implementation
  • Playing a key role as a representative of R&D in cross functional teams (R&D, marketing, process team, manufacturing) in specific projects
  • Preparing reports and oral presentations and presenting results to peers, senior leaders and customers
  • Supervising and mentoring one or several Laboratory Technicians ensuring all laboratory, pilot plant and test procedures are conducted in compliance with all relevant safety, health and environment regulations and requirements
  • Evaluating and driving external collaborations with potential partners
  • Providing a technical expertise to both commercial and operations organizations in liaison with the technical service team.

About You
To be considered for this role you will ideally have:

  • A PhD degree in Chemistry or related discipline
  • A familiarity with the development of specialty inorganic materials, or alternatively knowledge and experience of one or more of the following:colloidal chemistry and the deposition of inorganic and organic coatings on colloidal particles
metal oxide synthesis and processing
hydrothermal synthesis processes

  • An innovative approach with regard to introducing new concepts and methods to work processes
  • A good knowledge of health and safety procedures generally in relation to laboratory and plant chemical operations and a sense of how regulatory rules impact work functions
  • The ability to work equally well as part of a team or independently and also to lead a team to the completion of a task
  • An openminded personality, ensuring an easy and beneficial integration into a multinational R&D team
  • Strong verbal communication skills, written and verbally in English
  • French communication skills will be a plus


The role will report to the R&D Manager Specialty Products and is located at our newly established R&D research center in Thann, France, located near the German and Swiss borders.

Starting date : 1st of September 2023.
