Le LAMES situé sur le centre de Nantes de l'Université Gustave Eiffel, conduit des recherches sur le comportement mécanique, l'auscultation et la gestion des infrastructures de transport (infrastructures routières, ferroviaires, aéroportuaires, plates-formes industrielles).

L'équipe du LAMES se compose de 24 permanents, dont 14 chercheurs et ingénieurs.

Content:

The content of the internship is part of the above context.

The objective of the internship is to establish the aging indexes of asphalt mixes based on the analysis of their different mechanical characterization tests, in relation with their bitumen binders' properties and with the distresses observed on in-situ pavements.

A first literature work is necessary to understand the most common terms in the topic of the internship:

asphalt mix, asphalt pavement, laboratory performance tests on asphalt mix (complex modulus test, fatigue test, TSRST, ITSR,), aging properties of asphalt binders and their evaluating tests, pavement distresses related to aging phenomenon.


Then the three following tasks are foreseen:


  • _Determination of aging indexes determined from test results on asphalt mixes _
From a database of the results obtained on laboratory
- and field-aged asphalt mixes tested by different partners in MoveDVC project, the following steps are foreseen:

  • Describe and analyze the behavioral characteristics observed on these results.
  • Determine the indexes which represent the most appropriate characteristics visàvis the aging phenomenon.

_Evaluation of the relationship between the aging indexes of asphalt mixes with their binders' properties_
On the basis of the results of aging evaluation obtained on the asphalt binders (data already obtained in a recent PhD work in MoveDVDC project), the following step is foreseen:

  • Evaluate the relationship between these results on the binders with the aging indexes determined on the mixes. That could be done using some methods found in the literature and new methods developed in MoveDVDC project.

_Identification of pavement distresses related to aging phenomenon and validation of mix aging indexes _


In order to validate the aging indexes as previously determined for the asphalt mixes, it is necessary to relate them with the pavement distresses observed on in-situ pavements.


The following steps are foreseen:

  • From the literature, identify the pavement distresses resulted from the aging phenomenon.
  • Relate these pavement distresses to the mix aging indexes as previously determined.
  • Validate these indexes using data obtained from the pavement sites selected in MoveDVDC project

Profil:

Writing skill
Familiar with statistical analyses and data science tools.
Open‐minded and autonomous to learn new knowledge, especially about asphalt materials' properties.
An experience in engineering or materials science is a plus.
