Position Context and Benefits
The DISCO team is highly experienced in studying delay systems using input-output and time domain methods in linear and nonlinear scenarios. Key areas of focus include stability analysis, robust control, and development of simplified controllers.
Assigned Mission
Delays play a significant role in challenging fields like communication and information technologies. Mathematically, the presence of delays complicates the stability characterization of dynamical systems. When assessing the transfer function of such systems in the frequency domain, identifying the poles in the complex plane becomes crucial. Stability hinges on having no poles in the closed right half-plane, stressing the importance of pole location.
The groundbreaking work of Bellman & Cooke introduced two system categories: retarded delay systems with a finite number of poles in the closed right half-plane, and neutral systems potentially featuring an infinite number of poles in the closed right half-plane (distributed as chains of poles asymptotic to vertical lines in the complex plane alongside poles of low modulus).
This thesis aims to advance the understanding of stabilization properties of neutral-type delay systems and develop robust controllers for them.
Main Activities
Our focus will particularly include investigating coprime factorizations for these systems. This exploration will lead to the proposal of both infinite-dimensional and finite-dimensional controllers, critical for robust control of hyperbolic PDEs.
Applying these findings within the Matlab toolbox YALTA or Python Toolbox YALTAPy would be advantageous.
Skills
We seek candidates with a strong background in mathematics/systems theory. Proficiency in Maple/Python/Scilab is desirable.
