We are looking for a Space Transformation Cost Engineer to work at ESA's HQ premises in the city of Paris, France.


Tasks and Activities:


The scope of work will include:

  • Support the Ariane 6 transition and exploitation activities, in particular the understanding of manufacturing processes and related costs through the supply chain, creating and delivering reports and support on creation of documentation, WOs etc. and direct interaction with industrialists related to the same.
  • Support and creation of reports on additional Cost Assessment activities as necessary (e.g. cost assessments related to specific activities such as nuclear payloads).
  • Support STS-IV in the Identification and Implementation of process improvements, state of the art, Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence, machine learning concepts to be applied on ESA and AE owned Fixed Assets.
  • Specification and data gathering of technical element at industry level to be implemented in a bottomup cost monitoring tool.
  • Specification of the cost monitoring tool.
  • Following the technical implementation and interfacing with the contracted company for the building and installation of the cost monitoring tool and interfacing with internal IT technical and security representatives.
  • Contributing to preparation, maintenance, and assessment of the Ariane 5 and 6 cost files relating to transition and exploitation phases and launch service activity.
  • Contributing to the implementation of solutions during transition and exploitation.
  • Analysis and assessment of Ariane exploitation costs.
  • Assessing justifications concerning changes to Ariane production contracts.
  • Support the interface with the Industrial Auditing and Return Division concerning Ariane launcher exploitation.
  • Identifying and proposing cost effective solutions.
  • Preparing reports and elements of documents and proposals for ESA reporting and to be shared with member state delegations.
  • Contributing to the preparation of procurement documents.
  • Management and implementation of the Extraordinary Maintenance of ESAowned Fixed assets used in Ariane and Vega exploitation in Europe and CSG (incl. when the Agency is acting on behalf of Arianespace).
  • Assessing the operational status of the manufacturing facilities, including their maintenance, replacement due to endoflife, renewal due to obsolescence and upgrade with respect to regulations, implementing and followingup the necessary activities on this respect.
  • Possible attendance to relevant meetings with ESA and interfacing with public sector, industry and Arianespace and delivery of inputs in preparation of such meetings.

Skills and Experience:


The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • PhD or MSc Engineering from a recognized Institution of secondary studies (University, Ecole supérieure, etc.) or equivalent with 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the space sector and its organization.
  • Knowledge of industrial cost and schedule aspects.
  • Knowledge of other technical domains with interfaces to own area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge/Expertise of (serial) production and operations in an industrial setting.
  • Excellent reporting and communication skills.
  • Understanding of complex systems.
