Aliaa Moualla

Doctor in computer science and artificial intelligence, my thesis entitled "a robot in the museum: cognitive learning and aesthetic behavior" dealing with bio-inspired artificial intelligence was carried out at the ETIS laboratory at the University of Cergy-Pontoise. This thesis is based on multidisciplinary fields mainly focused on computer science, robotics and signal processing and integrates notions of neurobiology and psychology and anthropology.

I developed a bio-inspired Joint attention model, and a robot movement control model in an egocentric frame of reference based on dynamic neuron field theory and biological data. I was also interested in human-robot interaction and I carried out a long study of the readability of the behavior of the robot “Berenson” based on the responses of visitors in a real environment (Persona exhibition, Quai Branly museum), but I I also studied the impact of cumulative learning in such an environment on a population of robots. This study highlighted the impact of museum learning on the process of robot individuation and the increase in diversity of a robot population.
My models of joint attention and bio-inspired movement control are part of my long-term research project, and they can be combined with other mechanisms in order to have attention behavior.  Once the robot will be equipped with such a capacity (joint attention) human-robot interaction and autonomous learning will be considerably advanced, I have detailed its points in my integration project.
