Christophe Demay

I am Christophe Demay, originally from the North of France and initially an analyst-programmer, who transitioned into bioinformatics in 2005. My technical expertise led me to work as a Senior Bioinformatician Scientist on a national human genome sequencing project in Qatar.

Before this, I engaged in various bioinformatics projects related to microbiology, proteomics, and clinical genomics at institutions including the Pasteur Institute in Guadeloupe and hospitals in Lille and Quebec, which allowed me to work closely with biologists.

With nearly 20 years of experience in bioinformatics, I often define myself today as a "BioInfoDevOps" project manager. I have played a pivotal role in evaluating, testing, and developing systems for managing and executing pipelines, ensuring international standards and best practices. My role as a developer and my technical experience have frequently led me to technically support teams, plan activities, and drive innovation in solution implementation.

I am currently seeking new professional opportunities and challenges that would allow me to leverage my skills and experience in a dynamic environment. I would be delighted to discuss potential opportunities with interested organisations.

Christophe Demay

As a Senior Bioinformatician Scientist at the Qatar Genome Program, I managed the bioinformatics aspects of creating an HLA reference panel for the Arab population, incorporating data from over 14,000 individuals. I led the integration of Illumina’s DRAGEN technology into our sequencing workflows and innovated a meta-algorithm that synthesized results from multiple HLA typing tools. My efforts significantly improved HLA genotype imputation accuracy.

In my role as a Bioinformatics Engineer at the CHU of Lille, I designed and implemented high-throughput sequencing workflows across multiple thematic areas and developed robust computing infrastructures using technologies like Nextflow and containerization to support clinical and research applications.

Earlier, at the Institut pour la Recherche sur le Cancer de Lille, I developed a pipeline to analyze miRNA sequencing data, aiming to identify therapeutic targets in large B-cell lymphoma.

Throughout my career, I have also engaged in developing bioinformatics solutions for proteomics at CRCHUL in Quebec and managing genotyping databases for tuberculosis at the Institut Pasteur in Guadeloupe.

In addition to my professional endeavors, a year of backpacking across 18 countries honed my adaptability and problem-solving skills, enhancing my ability to navigate and contribute in diverse cultural and professional settings.

I hold multiple advanced degrees that have laid the foundation for my career in bioinformatics and computer science:

1. Master 2 in Bioinformatics (M2-Pro/DESS), a Postgraduate degree from the University of Sciences Lille I, France, specializing in bioinformatics which merges biological research with computational techniques.
2. Master 2 in Research in Biology (DEA), a Postgraduate degree in Biology from the University des Antilles et de la Guyane in the French West Indies, focusing on advanced biological research.

3. Master's Degree (M.Sc./Licence-Maitrise) in Computer Science from the Faculty of Sciences Jean-Perrin in Lens, France, providing me with a strong foundation in computer science principles and applications.
4. University Degree in Computer Science (DUT) from the Institut Universitaire Technologique in Lens, France, which initiated my formal education in computing and programming.
