About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade


The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally.

This involves strengthening Australia's security, enhancing Australia's prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program, and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government.

DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia's pursuit of global, regional, and bilateral interests.


About the position
This position provides media support and monitoring, along with assisting to develop the Australian Embassy's public diplomacy program.


The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing media and other support to visiting ministers, embassy events and high-level delegations (including in the context of the Paris 2024 Olympics and military commemorations events)
  • Assisting the Australian Embassy's public diplomacy program, including the implementation and promotion of the new Cultural Initiative and other publicfacing activities as part of the Australia-France roadmap
  • Monitoring domestic and international political and economic developments, and preparing daily media reviews
  • Developing contacts within key media organisations
  • Preparing and distributing media releases
  • Working with a small team to shape and develop the Embassy's communications strategy to promote Australia in France

Qualifications/Experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including event management and logistics.
  • Proven research, analytical and writing skills.
  • Ideally experience and contacts in French media industry and Englishspeaking media, and/or in the media department of an Embassy/administration.
  • Creativity and ability to generate new ideas and new approaches.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Written and oral fluency in both English and French.

Selection Criteria
A.

Experience in communications and media, including building and maintaining a strong network and developing relationships with political media and communications partners.

B.

Excellent interpersonal skills including working well in a team and comfortable working with senior level officials, politicians, executives, journalists, and other stakeholders.

C.

Demonstrated experience supporting and implementing strategic communication and community engagement strategies, including the creation of digital content for a variety of digital platforms.

D. Demonstrated initiative and organisational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities.

F. Strong interest in and knowledge of foreign affairs, including Australian and French bilateral relations and government policies.


We are looking for a motivated individual to join the Austrlian Embassy in Paris to provide media support and monitoring, along with assisting to develop the Australian Embassy's public diplomacy program.
