OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST


UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is responsible for coordinating international cooperation in the field of education, sciences, culture and communication.

The Entities of the Culture Sector cover the following thematic areas of work and international conventions:
World Heritage (World Heritage Convention (1972); 2011 Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape)

Living Heritage (Intangible Heritage Convention

Diversity of Cultural Expressions (Diversity of Cultural Expressions Convention (2005); 1980Recommendation on the Status of the Artist)

Culture and Emergencies (Protection of Cultural Property in Armed Conflict Convention (1954)and its 2 Protocols; Illicit Trafficking Convention (1970); 2015 Recommendation on Museums)

Cultural Policies and Development

Executive Office of the Culture Sector (overall programme and management coordination)
Long Description
Support in receiving and distributing documents.

Support in finalizing in final format draft documents prepared by colleagues; compiling, summarizing background materials and facilitating information exchange as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education

Completed secondary, technical or vocational school.

Work Experience


Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in programme assistance, and/or administrative and secretarial tasks or related tasks, preferably in an international environment.

Skills & Competencies

Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Good skills in drafting correspondence and documents in English and French, with strong attention to details.
Good organizational and coordination skills with the ability to take initiative, establish priorities and monitor own work plans.
Ability to work under pressure, deal with complex and sensitive situations and flexibility to adjust work schedules.
Diplomacy in dealing with external and internal partners requesting information.
Ability to work efficiently in a multi-cultural environment, with team spirit.
Good IT skills, including MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.).

Long Description
Languages

Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English or French and good knowledge of the other language.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience

Experience in providing programme and administrative support services.

Relevant work experience in an international environment/organization/institution.

Languages

Knowledge of another/other official UNESCO language(s) (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and/or Spanish).
