Summary / purpose of the position


This is a senior leadership role responsible for gathering, synthesizing, and communicating Competitive Intelligence (CI) insights across Ipsen's three therapy areas - Oncology, Rare Disease and Neuroscience.

The role will focus on marketed medicines, in addition to launch-phase medicines and new indications. This is a truly global role, requiring coverage across Europe, North and South America, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.

This role plays the 'glue' within a cross-matrix environment. Key stakeholders include asset teams, global-medical affairs, forecasting/analytics team, in-country leadership teams, finance, and investor relations.


The purpose of this role will be to develop a best-in-class CI capability, through leveraging internal resources and recently launched intelligence tools, across local and global teams, and maximising third-party support with external vendors.


The role is accountable for delivering outstanding competitor insights, proactively identified via primary and secondary sources, and communicated directly to Executive Leadership Team members on a weekly basis.

This role is key to the business and the growth of Ipsen.


Main responsibilities / job expectations

Competitive Intelligence Leadership & Strategy

  • Design and deploy an optimal CI operating model across GPPS and Specialty Care teams, requiring the ability to educate and influence General Managers and regional heads to ensure CI is collated and communicated in a consistent, rapid and quality manner
  • Prioritise requests for CI support according to strategic priorities, geography, and product maturity
  • Allocate effort of internal and external resource based on business priorities across therapy areas and lifecycle needs
  • Development of Global Ipsen CI charter, through which commitment will be secured from all relevant teams to establish information sharing channels

Insights Generation

  • Partner with affiliates to generate tactical insights based on competitive fieldforce analysis
  • Partner with Asset Team Leads to ensure the best available competitive data is used to inform the business cases which are submitted to the new governance structure (Asset Centric Model)
  • Partner with New Products & External Innovation therapy area leads to generate insights related to business development and acquisition targets
  • Lead and oversee the delivery of competitor simulation workshops with global brand teams, including the development of potential competitor scenarios to inform strategic direction for Ipsen medicines
  • Support to R&D and earlystage asset project teams regarding horizon scanning and impact on R&D pipeline / subsequent forecasts and NPVs
  • Ensure all sources and insights (internal/external) are gathered/integrated in a comprehensive way, highlighting gaps to fill, level of confidence

CI Systems & Processes

  • Maintain uptodate information on the Knowledge Management Tool by regularly uploading latest deliverables and ensuring accurate tagging
  • Harness recently launched and existing tools designed to gather competitiveintelligence insights from fieldbased teams

Stakeholder / Vendor management

  • Select and manage external vendors who are able to provide primary and secondary competitive intelligence on an adhoc basis to augment core CI monitoring on topics of high business impact. Upskill vendors to ensure they can work to a more sophisticated Ipsen CI standard with mínimal supervision
  • In partnership with Asset Team Head, design and deliver communications process for breaking news and significant insights. Communication target audience will be highly selected GLT colleagues, and ELT members
  • Close collaboration with Investor Relations and Finance (CFO office) regarding capitalmarkets events and forecast implications. This includes the quality and proactive development of Q&A documents used to support interactive sessions between ELT members, investors and analysts

People Leadership & Development

  • Develop partner management and change capacities of the team
  • Align and energize team around common objectives
  • Ensure alignment and engagement of stakeholders through soft leadership
  • Improve team capabilities through training and workshop to share best practices and build new tools & techniques to manage and optimize local partnerships
  • Attract, develop and retain talents in the team to shape the future of IPSEN. People management of two global CI directors, and variable spend budget of approximately £1.5m
