What you'll do


Are you interested in pioneering research to ensure ethical and responsible AI technology? Join our research team for an exciting PhD position delving into biases in AI systems, through exploring the intersection of AI fairness and explainability.


As a PhD researcher, you will employ advanced methodologies to assess and intervene in AI systems, promoting fairness and transparency.

Using established AI explainability techniques, you will define novel fairness notions that will help uncover biases and identify its sources, interpret decision-making, and provide valuable insights to stakeholders.


Your work will empower them by proposing tools and solutions to understand and mitigate biases, leading to fair AI systems and equitable outcomes.


Throughout this research, you will gain valuable expertise in machine learning and Trustworthy AI, collaborate with experts in a supportive environment, and have access to state-of-the-art resources to drive your research.

This is a remarkable opportunity for talented young researchers to make a substantial impact in their field and contribute to a project with practical industrial implications.


What you bring

  • Holds a MSc or engineering degree in data science, machine learning, or related field.
  • Familiarity with model interpretability, causal inference, or counterfactual reasoning.
  • Previous experience in AI explainability/fairness advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in Machine/Deep Learning Proficiency in research (literature review, experimental design, data analysis).
  • Excellent Python programming skills, experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn).
  • Experience with modern software tools (Git, Docker).
  • Strong analytical skills, creativity, passion for addressing societal challenges of AI.
  • Fluent in English (working language), excellent written/verbal communication.
  • PhD contract of 3 years
  • Start date: as soon as possible
