About the Role:


As Casualty Underwriter you will be responsible for handling new business and renewing an existing portfolio of Casualty business within our International Casualty organization.

Primary focus would be serving the needs of Southern Europeans market, which includes Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Israel.

The position is expected to be based out of Paris, with flexibility for a hybrid model.


About the Department & Team:

The International Treaty Casualty team is spread across offices in Milan, Paris, Cologne, London, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and writes reinsurance treaties across all Casualty lines of products: Motor, General Third Party Liability, Specialty Liability (Environmental, D&O, Professional Indemnity)

The book is written in collaboration with market manager and actuaries involved in other lines of products.


We work together with a goal to write a balanced and diverse portfolio of casualty reinsurance treaties with our client insurers.


Key Responsibilities:


The Underwriter at LM Re is custodian of our technical excellence in selecting business and partners, aligning pricing with the risk and developing high quality commercial relationship.


  • Share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice, interacting with our clients as well as all internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with actuaries, accountants, market leaders to develop a profitable portfolio, monitor its performance and claims.
  • Act as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within area of expertise.
  • Be an active contributor to LM Re's Business Plan drawing and delivering. Support Business Alignment across LMRe by endorsing and executing corporate strategies, initiatives, and priorities.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency.
  • Act in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure that all obligations are met.
  • Ensure the recording and measurement of reinsurance risks, to ensure accuracy and good practice.
  • Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to drive and enhance business performance.
  • Establish and strengthen strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximize influence and achieve business objectives.
  • Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through identifying and implementing appropriate learning and development activities
  • Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. Skills and Experience:


  • Ability to analyze data and use for decisionmaking.
  • Be a diplomat: Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills. Ability to negotiate and communicate with CxO level clients and partners.
  • Have curiosity for local Casualty markets and cultures.
  • Strong interest or experience in Reinsurance, Insurance, Finance or Risk Management
  • Fluent in English & French. Additional language a strong plus.
  • Teamplayer. Desire to be helpful and take initiative, comfortable taking ownership for work, identifying the need for action whilst working effectively within a team. LM Re prides itself in its inclusive corporate culture and all employees are expected to demonstrate fairness and tolerance.
