Polymers and composites are found in all modern industrial applications, from nanomedicine to communication satellites. Noticeably, poly-epoxies are widely used in the aerospace industry. The knowledge of their surface is a strategic challenge.

The aim of this post-doctoral position is (i) to use a house-developed model of poly-epoxy surfaces to simulate XPS spectra, (ii) to study its reactivity with metals and (iii) to develop new atomistic models of poly-epoxy surfaces.

Obtaining a generic model of the polymer surface is the key step of this project. Quantum mechanical calculations (DFT) will be performed to simulate XPS spectra and to study the adsorption of metal on the polymer model available. In a second part, new models of the poly-epoxy surface will be built.

This project will take place at the Interuniversity Center for Materials Research and Engineering (CIRIMAT ). CIRIMAT conducts multidisciplinary research on major families of materials (metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers, composites, multimaterials) in the form of powders, thin films, coatings, massive parts, from their design to their behavior in service. The CIRIMAT has thus established strong and lasting links with industrial partners and is labeled Institut Carnot.
