Airbus Helicopters in Marignane (France) is looking for an Helicopter cockpit functional specifications (FDR) specialist within the area of Cockpit Human Factors/Ergonomics & Cockpit Design/Crew interface in our department.

The Mission of our department is mainly focused on below axes:

  • understand the environment of the aircraft & how the aircraft is operated by the pilots (the customers)
- understand the Human Brain Functions & its performances/limits when interacting with Helicopter Cockpit Systems
- define & design an optimal Cockpit Layout in accordance with the two above axes, but not only: the ETYAH Specialist also needs to know & integrates industrial and maintenance constraints, to consider "re-used equipment" for optimal business case purposes, to consider anthropometry parameters as per customer needs, to interact with all other disciplines in order to integrate their constraints (vibrations alleviation, flight control,..),, & finally to answer Airworthiness Authorities regulation requirements and guidelines to have a certifiable & certified product at the end
- cascade all above axes item into functional specifications & design items in various fields as cockpit layout, cockpit avionics functions (alerting function, flight monitoring, ),
- all above steps/ axes have to be validated during the development of a new helicopter or new functionalities until the certification.


Within Airbus Helicopters Engineering, you will work on the design of the cockpit of Light Twin helicopters (commercial and military helicopters) as a Functional Specification Development Manager (FDR) for the development of Flight Display subsystems.

Your challenges:


As part of the development of a complex avionics suite, you will be responsible for the development and certification of a specific function, implemented in the system.


As the department is responsible for the design of the cockpit and the displays, you will be in contact with cross-divisional functions such as flight monitoring which controls, selects and displays all the flight parameters for the crew.


As a Functional Specification Development Manager, you will:

  • Contribute to the definition of concepts for displaying information in the cockpit in close collaboration with Human Factors specialists and test pilots
  • Specify function requirements from system requirements
  • Validate requirements for stateoftheart items, technical judgment and previous developments
  • Assign the requirements to the software components based on the functional design established with regard to the display concept
  • Guarantee the correct implementation of the requirements in the software components (completeness)
  • According to the specification activities (downward phase of the V cycle), you will be responsible for verifying the functions (upward phase of the V cycle).

To complete this mission, you will need to:

  • Define the means of verification
  • Contribute to the development of test procedures (in close collaboration with the team of integration test benches, systems)
  • Ensure the execution of bench tests
  • Gather the test results from the team responsible for the benches and the suppliers
In addition to the above-mentioned missions, you will have to:

  • Manage problem reports (reporting, analysis, correction and verification on test benches and / or on helicopters)
  • Diligently check the results of flight tests
  • Actively contribute to the analysis of problems encountered on the benches
  • Ensure regular reporting on the progress of the maturity of the function

Your profile:


  • You have a degree in aerospace engineering (Bachelor & Master) with a particular focus on avionics & cockpit systems
  • You have a strong background with aircraft systems design, more particularly on cockpit & avion
