    As a R&D Software engineer you will be playing a crucial role in the early stages of product development, leading the discovery and prototyping phases on innovative solutions to revolutionize insurance.

    Within AXA Group Operations, Group Emerging Technology and Data (GETD) defines the Group's data maturity ambitions; builds and manages the community; leads research and expertise; assists the less data mature entities; identifies cutting edge technologies and develops disruptive applications for the entities; creates use cases on specific technologies with the entities.

    The department / team

    In GETD, you will join the Computable Contracts team.

    Within GETD, we have developed a solution to make insurance contracts computable.

    Computable contracts are the interface of law and technology, they operate standardized digital model that can be easily readable by everyone, from legal experts to regular customers – and computers.

    It's a way to express the terms of contracts directly in machine executable code:

    contract as a code is the basis for automation, standardization and simplification which drive positive impacts both in terms of customer experience (transparency and personalization) and operations efficiency.

    About the job

    Job purpose

    The role of a R&D Developer is to perform discovery of new initiatives to improve the existing capabilities of the Computable Contract products, or add new capabilities through:

    Research:

    In collaboration with the product owner and the UX/research designer he will research and gather information to understand the problem space and identify potential solutions.

    This phase often involves a lot of exploration and analysis to define the scope and requirements of the project.

    Prototyping:

    He creates initial versions of a product or feature: the Proof of Concept, crucial for testing ideas and concepts.

    Proof of Concepts help in validating assumptions, gathering user feedback, and iterating quickly before moving into full-scale development.

    He is responsible for the transfer of the learnings for the delivery phase of the validated solution.

    He may take ownership of the delivery, or start working on a different discovery initiative, once the transfer of knowledge is complete.

    Main missions & responsibilities

    Idea Generation and Exploration:
    Generating innovative ideas and exploring new technologies or methods that could be applied to the project.

    Feasibility Studies:
    Conducting feasibility studies to assess the practicality and potential impact of the proposed ideas. This includes evaluating technical feasibility, cost implications, and overall alignment with business objectives.

    Prototyping:
    Developing prototypes to test concepts and ideas. This involves creating early models of a product or feature to demonstrate its functionality and potential. Prototyping is often iterative, requiring multiple versions to refine the concept.

    Technical Problem-Solving:
    Solving complex technical challenges that arise during the development of prototypes. This requires a deep understanding of the technology stack and the ability to think creatively to find solutions.

    User Testing and Feedback Gathering:

    In partnership with the UX designer and the Product Owner, conducting user testing sessions and gathering feedback to validate assumptions and identify areas for improvement.

    Understanding user perspectives is crucial for refining prototypes.

    Innovation and Continuous Learning:
    Continuously learning and experimenting with new approaches and technologies to drive innovation. Staying ahead of the curve is essential in a fast-paced tech environment. This involves staying up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies.

    Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other developers to ensure that the prototype aligns with user needs and business goals.

    This involves regular communication and coordination with different teams.

    Transitioning Prototypes to Production:
    Working with development teams to transition successful prototypes into production-ready products or features. This may involve redesigning or re-engineering aspects of the prototype for scalability and reliability, and technical documentation.

    Your Profile

    Expected skills & experience

    We are looking for someone with the following experience and skills:

    Experience

    At least 5 years of experience in development.

    Technical skills

    • Experience on the following domains/technologies is mandatory: backend development using in a cloud environment with proficient in operations (DevOps), frontend development frameworks (such as VueJS)
    • Very good knowledge in software development and several years of experience in Javascript.
    • Well versed in REST, Clean Code, DevOps and Continuous Integration
    • Good knowledge of Docker, CI/CD and Testing
    • Experience in using automated tests (Jest and Cypress)
    • Experience with various database systems (MariaDB, Redis, influxDB, graph DBs ...)
    • Good knowledge of the security environment (OpenID, OAuth, SAML)
    • Experience with cloud technologies such as Docker and Openshift is a plus
    • You are open to new ideas, enjoy and are interested in communicating and enjoy working in agile teams.
    Soft skills / transversal skills

    • Excellent written and verbal English communication. You will do most of your writing in English. Speaking will be mainly in English (mandatory). French or Spanish are a big plus
    • Excited about learning new technologies on short notice
    • Independent, solution-oriented and structured approach with good analytical/abstraction ability
    • Ability to challenge others and challenge him or herself
    • Ability to work in an international and cross-functional team
    • Ability to interact autonomously with our customers IT representatives to design or resolve integration capabilities. Do it with empathy, and seeking fluent and efficient communication and get-things-done mindset
