Description

We are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our operations and improving the life cycle footprint of aluminum throughout the value chain.

In our company, safety is essential, it is one of our core values without compromise. Our Research and Technology Center, C-TEC Constellium Technology Center, employs about 240 people. Our research is mainly in the field of casting, aluminum transformation and surface treatment.

By joining our company, you will discover a multicultural company which is committed to diversity and the well-being of its employees.

Context of the project:

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is the most mature technology for metal additive manufacturing (AM).

LPBF can be used to produce high-quality metal parts in geometries impossible to produce with conventional manufacturing, as well as offering very short lead times and no tooling costs.

Constellium has developed Aheadd CP1, an additive manufacturing powder in a new alloy system designed specifically for LPBF technology.

This world-leading product is generating huge interest in multiple industry segments, including aviation, satellite technology, semiconductor industry components, automotive and motor sports such as Formula 1 racing.

This 18-month VIE project is based at Constellium Technology Center's site at Plymouth, Michigan in the United States, to reinforce the Constellium Additive Manufacturing team in North America.

Experimental work including printing trials will be conducted at the nearby LIFT center in Detroit.

Travel to Constellium partners in the USA and Canada as well as technical conferences and trade fairs will be involved.

The project gives exposure to a start-up style innovation project embedded in a large, established company with deep expertise in aluminium and a worldwide customer network.

Examples of components printed in Constellium Aheadd CP1 from collaborations with customer and partners worldwide.

In comparison with industry-standard Al-Si alloys, Aheadd CP1 offers improved component properties, better geometries and surfaces, faster printing and simpler post-processing.

Key responsibilities:

During an initial training period, the jobholder will learn about the metallurgy and performance of Constellium Aheadd CP1, and with support from Constellium experts will analyse alloy processing and performance data in comparison with benchmarks from the literature on standard alloys.

The jobholder will represent Constellium at trade fairs and conferences, learning more about additive manufacturing while promoting the advantages of Constellium solutions in discussions with partners and customers.

**- a materials or mechanical engineering background to a Masters level (French Ecole d'Ingénieur for example))
- a passion for new technology and relevant experimental experience
- an outgoing personality and strong communication skills
- strong digital skills including data analysis and basic machine learning.

Working language for the project is of course English. It will be necessary to drive in the US (a car will be provided).

Benefits:

  • VIE indemnity for the US
