Company Description

CGG is a global technology and HPC leader that provides data, products, services and solutions in Earth science, data science, sensing and monitoring.

Our unique portfolio supports our clients in efficiently and responsibly solving complex digital, energy transition, natural resource, environmental, and infrastructure challenges for a more sustainable future.

Job Description:

This position can be located either in Massy (France), Houston (US) or Crawley, (UK)

You will be expected to provide your expertise in computational science for both complex code optimizations and advanced technology scouting.

A good understanding or ability to learn existing and emerging workflows is required, and most importantly a proven ability to extract key performance, define appropriate performance metrics, and analyze the data statistically.

This analysis, along with the reporting from advanced technology scouting will be used to provide feedback to both the hardware and software system architecture teams.

Your key job responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the goal of optimizing overall system utilization and performance. This will span traditional hardware elements such as CPU and GPU compute systems, storage systems and HPC network as well as select software 'middleware' elements.
  • Computational scientists will be given key pieces of codes to be optimized for the architectures designed by the Enterprise Architecture Group. This will be performed using state of the art benchmarking techniques and capitalize on a good understanding of the mathematical methods implemented in the codes, as well as a deep understanding of the target compute and storage hardware.
  • In order to increase the efficiency of our HPC operations new monitoring and profiling methods appropriate to wide scope of workflows will be continuously proposed to Company architects and IT operations people.
  • To contribute to advanced technology scouting, especially technologies that will involve a mix of software and hardware, with a major potential impact on our future operations.
  • Interact with clients and developers, internal or external, to gather and share business information and context on projects, collaborate and report on their progress.

Qualifications:

  • 15 to 20 years of experience in codes performance tuning,
  • A strong scientific background with a proven ability to learn computational techniques at an advanced level,
  • Mastering of C++, Fortran and Python programming languages, of MPI and Open MP parallel programming paradigms,
  • Direct experience with performance metric data collection, tools development and analysis in a large HPC or HTC datacenter to solve complex problems.
  • Good experience in workflow modeling, including economical and energetical aspects.
  • A proven ability to interact with Computational Scientists at leading HPC centers in the US and EU at both an 'implementation' level and a 'roadmap' level.
  • An ability to effectively communicate across global teams including demonstrated teaching or presentation skills to clients, management and in conferences,
  • Capacity to manage complex projects, including the experts collaborating on those projects,
