OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST


The position is in the Unit for Capacity Building and Heritage Policy in the Living Heritage Entity of the Culture Sector, which is responsible for supporting Member States with the safeguarding of living heritage and its integration in development programmes and strategies through the implementation of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The focus is on the central role that communities play in the creation, maintenance and transmission to future generations of their heritage and on intersectoral collaboration in all areas of development, including foodways.


Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture, the general supervision of the Chief of the Living Heritage Entity, the direct supervision of the Head of the Capacity Building and Heritage Policy Unit within that Entity, the guidance of the Programme Specialist in charge of foodways and in close cooperation with the Coordinator of the Programme on Culture and Digital Technologies, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the project 'International Food Atlas and Digital Platform for safeguarding, promoting and transmitting foodways to future generations' ('Food Atlas project') within the framework of the Funds-in-Trust Agreement to strengthen cooperation in the field of culture and cultural heritage concluded between the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and UNESCO.


The project will generate new knowledge on foodways as intangible cultural heritage, develop a digital platform and tools to strengthen their safeguarding and create opportunities for learning and experience exchange among States Parties, communities and other relevant stakeholders in this field.


In particular, s/he will be responsible for:
Long Description

Coordinate the inception phase of the project and draw from the inputs produced during this phase to adjust and finalize the project document, in due coordination with all relevant partners.

This includes, among other tasks, lead the stakeholder mapping, organize the inception workshops and liaise with field offices for defining participating countries.


Coordinate the development of the UNESCO digital platform on foodways as intangible cultural heritage, aimed at promoting and supporting the safeguarding of foodways as living heritage through showcasing its diversity and its interlinkages with sustainable development.

This includes, among other tasks, developing a roadmap for defining the architecture and content of the platform, identifying technical and technological requirements and establishing Terms of Reference, liaising with the knowledge management specialist in the Entity.


Design and implement enabling spaces for dialogue and peer learning aimed at promoting foodways safeguarding, which includes, among other tasks, Identifying and systematizing experiences with foodways safeguarding from all regions, designing and coordinating capacity-building and peer-to-peer learning activities in participating countries, in coordination with field offices.

Long Description

Ensure the generation and dissemination of knowledge on the role of foodways for community well-being and sustainable development, which includes, among other tasks, identifying the necessary experts for leading research on existing experiences related to foodways and sustainable development, developing relevant Terms of Reference, and lead the production of a producing for safeguarding foodways.


Design the communication strategy for disseminating the project's goals, achievements and key outputs, considering each targeted audience (Member States, communities, institutional partners, etc), ensuring due coordination with the communications officer in the Living Heritage Entity, and other relevant services within UNESCO.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education


Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in the field of culture, humanities, social sciences, political science, law, international relations, or related field.
