R&D Maizières Process lab is dedicated to supporting ArcelorMittal's production plants competitiveness, quality and sustainability by the development or improvement of innovative processes or processing routes (from cokemaking to metallic coating).


Your role
ArcelorMittal Europe is committed to reduce CO2 emissions by 35% by 2030 and to be carbon neutral by 2050.

In the coming decades, steel production will be deeply transformed, promoting new processes that might create new casting and quality issues but also changing the steel product portfolio amongst our worldwide plants.


As a Research engineer in the Steelmaking department of ArcelorMittal R&D, you will directly be involved by leading studies and giving support to the plants to tackle with the current production situation and challenges created by the new process&product routes and propose evolution and optimization of the production practices.


You will:

  • Participate to R&D projects for the development of new or optimized process in ArcelorMittal industrial steelplants in the field of refractory
  • Provide expertise for technical assistance to plants (e.g. solve quality, reliability, process issues)
  • Design, organize process trials at industrial scale and managing allocated ressources for those activities
  • Analyze data to enrich our recommendations toward our customers
  • Interact with the whole ArcelorMittal community: Global R&D specialists (for model development) and technicians (for insite sensor installation), plant experts, corporate teams, etc
  • Support running projects & Develop collaborative research with external partners (suppliers, academic laboratories, technical centres)

Your profile

  • You hold a Masters' degree Material Science or Process Engineering.
  • A first experience in the field of refactories materials amongst steelmaking plant (including continuous casting), refractory supplier would be a plus.
  • Your English is fluent and your French is intermediate.
  • You demonstrate competencies in Refractory materials and characterization techniques.
  • You have good scientific level and are pragmatic.
  • You have a strong ability to work in network and multicultural environment. it is easy for you to communicate within and outside the team (RD, plants, suppliers, Universities...).
