Description
Exploring the role of the local environment in electrode-membrane assemblies for the electroconversion of CO2:
  • Réf: ABG-121840
  • Sujet de Thèse 26/03/2024
  • Contrat doctoral
  • Institut Européen des Membranes
  • Lieu de travail: Montpellier, Occitanie, France
  • Intitulé du sujet: Exploring the role of the local environment in electrode-membrane assemblies for the electroconversion of CO2
  • Champs scientifiques: Chimie
Mots clés:
  • CO2, conversion du CO2, électrocatalyse, électrolyse
  • Description du sujet:
    • Context: The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2R) using renewable electricity offers a promising way to reuse CO2 from various industrial processes. Progress has been made in converting CO2 into useful products, but understanding the local environment's impact on the process is crucial for further advancements.
    • The aim of this thesis is to develop innovative methods combining textural analyses and electrochemical measurements to study membrane electrode assembly (MEA) behavior.
    • The research will focus on studying electrocatalytic properties for different MEA configurations prepared from various catalyst formulations to control CO2, ion, and water fluxes. Ion-conducting polymers will be used to modify local concentrations and induce specific characteristics for improved performance.
    • Methodology: The PhD student will utilize gas sorption and characterization techniques to analyze thin films and stacks, evaluating mass uptake and refractive index variations during electrocatalytic reactions.
