Description

Research Engineer - Neutron Irradiation and Dosimetry

The context for the mission

The Platform for Advanced Characterisation-Grenoble (PAC-G) of the Nanoelec Technological Research Institute (IRT Nanoelec) is managed by a consortium comprising the European Neutron Source ILL, the European Synchrotron ESRF, CNRS-LPSC and CEA-LETI, as well as industrial partners from the microelectronics sector in Grenoble.

The aim of PAC-G is to offer state-of-the-art characterisation services to industry. In this framework, a considerable amount of R&D activity is devoted to developing novel advanced characterisation and irradiation set-ups to anticipate the future needs of the community in nano
- and micro-electronics.

Your tasks

As a member of the ILL's Nuclear and Particle Physics group, you will be in charge of developing differentiating elements/capabilities at the Thermal and Epithermal Neutron Irradiation Station, TENIS, and supporting experimental development for the group.

TENIS is a working installation for the irradiation of electronic components using a neutron spectrum produced by nuclear fission.

The overall objective of this work is to develop the capabilities of the instrumental set-up and further exploit all the possibilities offered by the equipment.

In particular, you will look for specific features to be implemented on TENIS in order to meet demands expressed by our industrial partners in terms of neutron and gamma beam characteristics.

This will mean, for instance, developing specific neutron filters or target designs. In addition, an active beam monitoring system should be implemented. These tasks include both modelling and instrumental development.

Your profile

  • You hold a Master's degree or a PhD in nuclear physics, in nuclear engineering or a PhD in materials science (or equivalent) with a sound knowledge of neutron physics.
  • Strong computing skills in at least one of the following codes: MCNPX, Serpent, GIANT
  • Experience with instrumentation and the installation and/or the setup of complex experimental facilities would be an asset.
