Context

  • SLS operates in a market where competition has increased and is expected to further increase significantly in the coming years. Our success in securing new contracts will depend on our ability to provide offers that are favourable for the customers and at the same time maximize the profit for the SLS Business Line.

Purpose

  • The Tender Manager, through close management & coordination of a multi functional team, submit bids on time to customers, with a price and technical specifications which reconcile Nexans' and the customer's expectations
  • He ensures that all costs & risks are properly considered in the offer presented. He liaises with the Sales manager regarding the best solution & pricing strategy to apply. He takes part to the tender negotiations with the Sales manager.

Areas of responsibility

  • Based upon the input and discussions with the Sales Manager, makes sure that the Tender team is aware of critical success factors which shall be the core of the Tender strategy
  • Manages the tender preparation process. Ensures that each tender is prepared according to Nexans procedures, and that cost & risk are properly assessed.
  • Be comfortable and have a good understanding of the technical solutions and cost inputs, cable design, installation method descriptions proposed by the tender team and external stakeholders (civil works contractors, subsuppliers).
  • Challenges the inputs from the contributors to the tenders, to propose the most competitive solutions which shall meet the Customer requirements.
  • Ensures, with legal and technical departments, that qualifications of terms and conditions are adequate.
  • Attends the ITR (Internal Tender Review) and TRC (Tender Review Committee) meetings, together with the Sales Manager.
  • Ensures that offers given to the customer are within the mandate given by TRC.
  • Takes part to the negotiations with the customer Constructive role in customer negotiations, in order to secure profitable orders
  • Ensures that feedback from Project execution is properly considered in cost & risk assessment of new tenders.
  • Provide inputs to sales and marketing strategy.
  • Provide tender files on time, according to Nexans procedures and expected quality.
  • Continuous improvement of tender process, from Tender & Project execution experience.

Expected results

  • Ensure that the offered cable and components are in accordance with the Clients requests/contract and Nexans' standard and experience
  • Contribute to implementing competitive sales solutions
  • Actively contribute to reach sales budget

Position sizing

  • Tenders may range up to several ten million euros, either supplyonly or turnkey projects
  • Management of a tender process that may involve up to 10 different persons, from different departments

Required skills and qualifications

  • At least 5 years relevant tendering experience, minimum a B.S. degree.
  • Technical education is preferable, but other relevant education and experience may be equally considered
  • Experience from sales and marketing work, technical, legal.
  • General experience from systematic document handling and planning
  • Ability to work systematically and cooperate across a multidiscipline organization, not only within the sales and marketing group
  • Ability to find solutions suited to Nexans' abilities and limitations
  • Preferable knowledge of project sales.
  • Preferable experience in negotiations and contracting of large and complex contracts and projects
  • General IS competence (office programs)
  • Fluent in English, verbal and written, additional language skills are a plus
