The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General.

SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

SDSN co-leads the
Food, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Land Use, and Energy (FABLE) Consortium. FABLE is a global network of researchers modelling long-term integrated pathways for food and land-use systems.

FABLE's mission is to create a collaborative space to support local scientists through capacity building, access to modelling tools and data, and knowledge on effective strategies for engaging stakeholders and informing policy processes.

The Trade Analyst will become an integral part of the FABLE team, actively contributing to the management of the FABLE network.

This opportunity offers vast learning experience covering model development, training others on modeling tools, stakeholder engagement in the food and land-use sphere, impactful communications on sustainability issues, and donor relations.


Position Overview

Principal responsibilities

  • Lead the team's quantitative analyses and modeling of international trade of agricultural and forestry products accounting for production costs, transportation costs, and trade policies
  • Enhance the trade adjustment methodology to ensure consistency of trade assumptions across national and regional FABLE Calculators
  • Allow dynamic consumptionbased footprint computation at country level for a range of sustainability indicators
  • Improve the representation of nutrition and health in the FABLE Calculator in relation with diets
  • Lead redaction of knowledge products including scientific articles, working papers, and briefs
  • Contribute to model comparison
  • Represent the FABLE Secretariat at international conference calls, meetings and conferences.
  • Support project management and proposal development for the SDSN FABLE team.
  • Support the team with any other relevant tasks.

Qualifications
Applicants for this position are expected to document adequate qualifications and experience, including:

  • A master's degree in agronomy or economics, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience working on trade or other aspects of food and land systems, ideally at the interface of research and policy development.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAMS or Python.
  • Experience working with large databases.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to synthesize information.
  • Experience in agricultural modeling would be an advantage.
  • Proven trackrecord in working independently as part of a decentralized team, international networks, and collaborative technical work.
  • A professional and resourceful style with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Professionally fluent in English with excellent writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Interest in applied research related to food and land use systems.
  • Good team player in an international and interdisciplinary environment.

Duration (dates and total time) and location
12 months starting as soon as possible. The position is based in Paris.

SDSN offers an attractive package of salary and other benefits under a French work contract (CDD).
