Responsibilities:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.


The overall objective of the UNEP Energy and Climate Branch is to encourage decision-makers in government, local authorities, and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies to move towards resilient, low-emission economies and societies around the world.

With 2023 starts the beginning of UNEP's new delivery model.

As such, UNEP Energy & Climate Branch will organize an inclusive global retreat to share knowledge acquired during the first quarter of 2023, assess lessons learned and explore new strategies.


The objective of the retreat are as follows:


To achieve the objectives of the retreat, the Energy & Climate Branch intends to commission services of an individual consultant with expertise and experience of the preparation and facilitation of team meetings, including a report of its major expected outcomes.


The expected deliverables of the consultancy are:

  • Brief analysis of issues arising (4 pages max)
  • UNEP Energy & Climate Branch retreat agenda
  • Relevant presentations and materials for UNEP Energy & Climate Branch retreat, including team building exercises
  • Effective facilitation of UNEP Energy & Climate Action retreat
  • UNEP Energy & Climate Branch retreat final report including follow up action plan
  • Monitoring of follow up of an actionable plan
Qualifications/special skills

Master's Degree in Business Administration; Human Resources; Organizational Psychology or other related field of relevance to management consulting.

  • At least 10 years demonstrable relevant experience in managing and implementing events of similar nature and magnitude.
  • Experience in the successful delivery of similar events services for the period before/ during/after the events (at least 3 examples).
  • Experience working with international organizations is an advantage, as is knowledge of UN policies and procedures.

  • Experience that includes and production of similar events.

  • Offers new and different solutions to solve problems or meet clients' needs.
  • Identifies risks and mitigation measures and proposes and demonstrates innovative and creative way to address them while keeping in mind the diversity of the participants and projects.

Communication:

  • Strong analytical, drafting, editing, and reporting abilities.
  • Ability to write clear reports, articles and scripts.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to facilitate productive discussions and drive these toward agreed conclusions.

Special skills/knowledge:

  • Knowledge of business processes improvement and team building (management consulting competence)
  • Familiarity with UNEP context
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • Discretion and agreement to a Confidentiality Agreement
  • Experience in project/programme/policy planning, monitoring and management
  • Experience with facilitation of meetings
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required.
