Description:
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
This role is part of the regional EMEAI regulatory affairs team and responsible for the monitoring of emerging chemical regulations in the EMEAI region, development of implementation strategy and operationalization.
Subject Matter Expertise
- Develop and keep up to date indepth knowledge on all aspects of hazard communication in European Union and other regional or local product regulations, as assigned.
- Develop and keep up to date working knowledge of chemical regulations in European Union.
- Evaluate new or changing regulation impact to current raw materials, finished goods, system environments and outputs.
- Where appropriate, act as S-W Regulatory representative with outside parties such as trade associations, service provider working groups or professional association
- Regulatory approval for new raw material introduction and alternate supplier for existing raw material code
- Answer transportation classification requests
- Support the businesses with commodity code assignments and complex requests.
Continuous Improvement and Projects
- Provide support for integration projects, Technology Transfer, site consolidations, or new business assessments, which could be impacted by the team's areas of responsibility
- Act as the business lead for internal and crossfunctional regulatory affairs projects
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities within regulatory affairs processes with focus on cross functional or regional/global improvements.
- Provide regulatory and system training to internal stakeholders from various teams
Authority Reporting
- Respond routinely to internal and external customer inquiries which are nonroutine or complex
- Serve as a contact for regulatory inquiries from federal and/or public regulators and respond to agency inquiries with legal review
- Independently perform required regulatory affairs authority reporting per regulation and according to established timelines
Systems and Data
- Act as a business key user of regulatory affairs systems
- Take ownership and drive data quality in regulatory affairs and affiliated systems to maximize compliance of our finished goods
Communication
- Provide effective communication both internally and externally on key issues
- Ensure timely communication to internal stakeholders; affected SW businesses, Legal, Global Product Stewardship and Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs.
- Provide periodic updates and key legislative timelines
FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in chemistry or scientific area.
Preferred:
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution in chemistry or scientific area.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- 5 years' experience in a Regulatory Affairs or Product Stewardship function or in a scientific position in the paint and coatings or chemical industry
- EMEAI regulation knowledge/understanding
Preferred:
- 8 years' experience in a Regulatory Affairs or Product Stewardship function or in a scientific position in the paint and coatings or chemical industry
- Experience in professional or trade association working groups
TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Fluency in English
- Expertise in European Union CLP Regulations
- Working knowledge of European Union chemical regulations
- Familiarity with raw materials and chemical products
- Proven ability and initiative to learn and research new concepts, ideas, and technologies quickly
- Strong systems/process orientation with analytical thinking, organization skills and problemsolving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a highpressure environment in a wellorganized fashion.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and to lead and influence crossorganizationally without direct hierarchical authority
Preferred:
- Fluency in French
- Expertise in France Member State chemical regulations
- Work experience in multidisciplinary teams
- Work experience in large projects
- Experience with Oracle 11i and WERCS
