Job description:
The Thermo-Mechanical Test&Simulation Engineer is responsible of these tasks:
- Characterizing the thermal and mechanical behavior of materials, structures, sub-structures, and assemblies integrated in modules
- Providing the information about materials and structures in order to feed thermal and mechanical models developed within the Simulation Department
- Contributing to the setup and followup of outsourced tests by seeking suitable partners and designing setups for internal needs.
- Ensuring reporting, deliverables drafting, methodology consolidation with due quality, communication within and outside ACC
You will use CAD/CAE tools (for example, Hyperworks), Finite Element solvers (for example, Optistruct, RADIOSS or LSDyna) and solvers for thermal modeling (STAR-CCM+ or Comsol).
The Thermo-Mechanical Test&Simulation Engineer reports to the Mechanical Simulation Manager. You may be asked to report to the Thermal Simulation Manager, Process Simulation Manager, the Engineering department manager. You will support the engineering team and design office for cells and module design. You will have cross activities with Thermal Modeling team, Mechanical Modeling team, V&V and safety team.
Your Main Missions will be:
MECHANICAL TESTS:
- Perform Tensile tests, bending tests, shear tests, compression tests, biaxial/punch tests
- Use standard extensometers.
Strain gages, Digital Image Correlation, Displacement sensors (LVDT)
THERMAL TESTS:
- Perform Density tests (weighing, immersion,), Specific heat capacity tests (ARC, Flash,), Thermal conductivity/resistance tests (Stationary and Transient methods)
- Install and suitably set Thermocouple (mandatory), Infrared imaging camera and Fluxmeter
DATA:
- Provide physical interpretation and analysis of tests results
SIMULATIONS:
- Perform
basic thermal simulations: steady and unsteady analyses of Conduction, Convection, Radiation - Perform
fully nonlinear mechanical simulations (Statics and Dynamics): large displacements, contacts, material law and material failure (as a function of triaxiality), modelling of bonded joints, welded lines, bolted joints
CORRELATION:
- Reproduce the test at hand by simulation and correlate models vs reality to improve company experience
- Manage collaborations with suppliers, customers and strategic partners
- Contribution in the company roadmap
- Be up to date to the state of the art on its topic of expertise
- Support Intellectual Property monitoring and propose innovative patentable concepts
Profile:
Know How
- Fundamental knowledge of metals (aluminum alloys and steels) is a must, including at least the following phenomena: strain rate sensitivity, strain hardening, heat transfer (conduction, convection, radiation), density, thermal conductivity and resistance, specific heat capacity, heat transfer coefficient, temperature dependency, anisotropy
- Basic notions about plastics, porous materials, and multilayer materials are very sought, including creep, compression effect on both mechanical and thermal properties
- CFD simulation is a plus
- Knowledge on various analytical methods commonly used in simulation
- Basic skills in any standard programming language (C++, Fortran, Matlab, Python, Java, )
