We are looking for a Functional Software Engineer to join our team at Tweag.


About You
You love building great software. Your work could be supporting new feature development, migrating existing features, or creating APIs.

You are interested in working in a Functional Programming (FP) environment and have experience with languages like Haskell, Scala etc.

You have experience in Nix the package manager/build tool. You also have some experience in frontend technologies like the DOM, CSS, and Javascript. Design and use of Domain Specific Languages (DSLs) would be a plus.

You have worked with teams before on large and demonstrable projects. You have experience with development pipelines, test automation, continuous integration and deployment in cloud-based environments. You are knowledgeable about modern architecture concepts, design patterns and development practices.

You relish creating high quality code from the comfort of your own home.

Your engineering projects will focus on understanding customers' needs and translating those needs from product specifications into functional, production ready code.

You'll have the opportunity to ship code daily that will be used by customers.

You love learning. Engineering is an ever-evolving world. You enjoy playing with new tech and exploring areas that you might not have experience with yet. You are self-driven, self-learner willing to share knowledge and participate actively in your community.

Having overlap with your team is critical when working in a global remote team. In addition, reliable high speed internet is a must.


If you

• Have experience with Nix the package manager/build tool.
• Experience in frontend technologies like the DOM, CSS, and Javascript. Design and use of Domain Specific Languages (DSLs) would be a plus
• Have excellent coding skills with a high bar for quality and understandability.
• Are able to work autonomously and comfortable contributing to defining objectives and milestones,
• Nurture a learning mindset, regardless of level or experience, and desire to delve deeper in the face of setbacks,
• Have an interest in and some experience of open source community contributions
• A desire to regularly communicate new learnings.
• An empathetic, humble, and clientfocused ethos.
• Strong organizational and task management skills.
• Excellent communication skills, especially written. We are a distributed team so we're extra mindful about communication.

Core Responsibilities

• Work together with client teams on their codebase, which include (but are not limited to) distributed systems, web services, financial systems
• Work on improving our many research and community projects
• Any combination of the previous two bullets, either simultaneously or in sequence.
• Participate in public communication via writing blog posts and communicating with colleagues and the Functional programming community
