Thermal risk assessment in biomass valorization

The use of biomass as raw materials in the chemical industry is more and more important. Such raw materials are more environmentally friendly than fossil raw materials. There are several stages for biomass valorization such as epoxidation, hydrogenation or oxidation. These stages can represent some risk of thermal runaways.1-4

Our group made a specific effort to understand the link between kinetics and heat-flow rate released during exothermic reaction.

During this master's thesis, we would like to have a better understanding of these risks of thermal runaway, and how to characterize them.

Kinetic experiments in reaction calorimeters will be carried out.

This master's thesis project will be done in the framework of the PROMETEE project, funded by Rouen Metropole.

The student will be supervised by S. Leveneur and Yudong MENG (PhD student).


Requirements:


  • Master student in chemical engineering;
  • Students should have some knowledge of analytical methods and kinetics;
  • Student must be proficient in English; understanding in French would be appreciated.
