DevOps research platform engineer f/m
We are looking for a talented person to manage and expand our computing and networking research platforms. We offer you to learn and be able to evolve on advanced technologies, in a research environment, to participate and contribute, to carry out various tasks independently and in a team, and to work in an international and open environment. The essential working language is English (French is not a prerequisite).
Mission
SLICES is the first European scientific instrument on digital sciences and more particularly, a test platform on future technologies, networks, cloud and IoT.
What we do
SLICES is a flexible platform designed to support large-scale, experimental research focused on networking protocols, radio technologies, services, data collection, parallel and distributed computing and in particular cloud and edge-based computing architectures and services.
We also operate a private cloud based on OpenStack and a wireless platform, which are part of the virtualized and programmable resources offered by SLICES to researchers.
What we offer
You will work with new advanced technologies and open source software (OAI, O-RAN, etc.).
You will work with colleagues in Europe, the USA and Asia, and you will be welcome to introduce new solutions and ideas into our ecosystem.
You will participate in international conferences and meetings with partners, so you will be required to travel.
If you wish, you will have the opportunity to publish articles in scientific journals - and if you find the world of research interesting, you can start a PhD.
Requirements:
Skills:
- Python
- GNU/Linux and Shell
- Linux virtualization and containers (LXC, Docker, Libvirtd)
- Container orchestration (Kubernetes)
- Cloud infrastructure (Openstack, MaaS)
- Task automation: scripts (Python, BASH), tools (Ansible, SaltStack)
- Web development (PHP, API, REST, React JS)
- Networks/Telecom (VLAN's, firewalls etc.) is a plus
- Collaborative tools (git, svn)
- Good communication
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to work with emerging technologies
- Rigor in programming
Language skills:
- English: Advanced writing and speaking
- French: Not a prerequisite for the position
Diploma
- Engineering or Masters diploma in computer science

The position is located within the team of Professor Serge Fdida, coordinator of the SLICES infrastructure.
Other information
Position to be filled as soon as possible
One year contract (in French, a "CDD"), renewable twice
Position based on the Pierre and Marie Curie campus of Sorbonne University (4 place Jussieu, 75005 Paris, France)
Occasional trips in France, Europe and abroad
International and open environment
Salary according to profile and experience (+ contribution to the Navigo public transport travel pass and to the canteen of the University)
