Project Planner, Turnkey and Land cable systems

Organization

  • Function: Project planning within Project Management Department
  • Country: France
  • Location: Courbevoie La Defense
  • Line Supervisor: Project Portfolio Manager
  • Discipline Supervisor: Discipline responsible within applicable area
  • Operational supervisor: Project Manager

Context

  • The Project Planner is part of the Project Management Department, organized in portfolio structure
  • Allocated to one or several projects and reporting within the project organization to the corresponding project manager (allocation across portfolios possible)
  • Planning professional questions shall aligned with Discipline Responsible for Planning
  • Client focus: Strong requirements for both internal and external customers regarding professionalism in project planning.

Purpose

  • Ensure that the Projects schedule(s) are developed based on Nexans planning principles and Contract requirements to meet contractual and key milestones
  • Ensure high quality and efficient project execution by close and proactive followup and timely reporting
  • Provide input to allocated tenders

Areas of responsibility

Tender Process:

  • Provide input to allocated tenders
with schedule addressing risk, price/cost/cash flow tables

  • Review and calrify the tender specification for planning and control

Project Execution:

  • Overall responsible for establishing the Execution / Baseline Schedule for projects in accordance:
  • Contract obligations,
  • Clients expectations
  • Internal procedures and the Project Model
  • Responsible for:
  • Perform regular status updates by obtaining information within project team, manufacturing plants, test centers, procurement (subcontractors and suppliers) and installation. Update the Project Schedule accordingly
  • Have good overview over the full project scope and interdependencies between the activities. The planner ensures information flow to project members
  • Close followup of project activities
  • Analysis: Variation analyses compared to baseline schedule, revise critical path and align project risks & opportunities with schedule, resource analysis, anticipate future schedule changes, find schedule improvement and suggests corrective actions
  • Internal & external progress reporting according to Client and Nexans requirements
  • Baseline Revision (reschedule project based on major changes in scope > time, cost, risk)
  • Update and gathering the input for the monthly report
  • Update the resource forecast, align the input with key project team members as well as the line manager for the resources when required and prepare and update resource requirements for the project
  • Areas of responsibility are fully applicable for the most complex (category A) projects. Requirements for less complex projects (category B and C) have to be aligned with contract and project needs. In addition a project planner may have specific operational responsibilities on behalf of the Project Manager in some projects, for instance detailed followup of type test program etc
  • Advisory work: Perform analyses and simulations based on project requests
  • Ensure high professional level in work performance as well as contribute to competence development within planning discipline to accommodate industrial requirements and needs
  • Support in other related works as required by management

Position sizing

  • Turnover for the projects is in the range 5400 MEUR/year
  • Number of projects / tenders per Project Planner are variable

Requested Competencies and Qualification

  • University degree or similar
  • Professional level in the field of project planning
  • General knowledge in project management as well as basic technical and economical understanding of the relevant business
  • Computer skills in relevant software programs like PrimaVera, MS Project, Excel, Word etc.
  • Writing and oral presentation skills, English and French.
