SuperGrid-Institute brings together 180 employees, of 28 different nationalities who work together within a dynamic environment in the city of Lyon.

As an independent research and innovation center, we are dedicated to develop technologies for the future power transmission system, the "supergrid", including HVDC & MVDC technologies.


General context


In this context, SuperGrid Institute wants to become a leader in power electronic converters and medium frequency transformers designs, with especially a strong activity in characterization and test.


For this purpose, we need to develop and enhance our innovative equipment and test platforms, prove our expertise and knowledge, and offer technical support to our customers.

Electrical domain

Power electronic and semiconductor activity:
Si and SiC for HV, component and Medium Frequency Transformer characterization, reliability methodology and test benches design.


The main targets of this position is to evolve within the R&D test benches team and participate concretely in their design and building.


Objectives / missions
The topic concerns the electrical measurement of losses in Medium Frequency Transformer and inductive loads.


The technical complexity is linked to the power factor close to 0, a maximum operating frequency of 100 kHz, and especially without load (magnetic losses).

First, the mission is to analyse and understand the phenomenon with accuracy, by performing tests in our laboratory.


Then, analyse the bibliography to provide new technological solutions based on signal conditioning and electronics, including high performance components (ex: Operational Amplifier with high slew rate, low distortion phenomenon).


The final goal is to obtain a result with a reliable measure and an error lower or equal to 1 %.


To summarize, the different stages will be:

  • Analyse the phenomenon
  • Study the bibliography and especially measure for Telecom domain
  • Propose electronic solutions based on analogical and signal processing to condition the signals
  • Use simulation tool
  • Develop an electronic board
  • Perform tests
  • Write test and trainee reports
and ability for design and simulation activities.

He/she must be curious, like activities in Laboratory and work with a team spirit.

Autonomy, relationship skills and reporting will be important and needed.

Numerical tools (LTSpice and Ansys platform) will be available
