Description

The
National School of Mines of Saint-Étienne (Mines Saint-Étienne), a school of the Institut Mines Télécom under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is responsible for training, research, innovation, industry transfer, and scientific, technical, and industrial culture.

The Flexible Electronics (FEL) department of the school is located on the Georges Charpak Provence Campus in Gardanne. Within the department, we work on ecosystems of modular flexible and conformable electronic objects. The department possesses strong expertise in the field of electrical and mechanical characterization of materials and electronic objects. The department's activities are centralized in the 660m2cleanroom facility.

Naixes
a company based in Aix-en-Provence, collaborates with the FEL department.

Naixes develops an Electroencephalography (EEG) signal capture solution aimed at enhancing the mental performance of individuals operating in challenging environments (e.g., motorsports) or e-sports.

Internship Objectives
1) Research and Analysis

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review on capacitive sensing techniques for ECG wave capture.
  • Analyze existing sensor designs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Study the properties of thin substrates suitable for sensor integration.

2) Sensor Design and Prototyping:

  • Design a capacitive sensor circuit tailored for ECG wave capture.
  • Select appropriate components and optimize the sensor layout / layers for maximum sensitivity and accuracy.
  • Utilize CAD tools to create schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Fabricate prototypes and perform initial testing and validation.

3) Signal Processing and Data Analysis:

  • Develop signal processing algorithms to extract and interpret ECG waveforms from the captured data.
  • Implement noise reduction techniques to enhance signal quality.

4) Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of design iterations, test results, and improvements.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate project progress and outcomes.
Multiple positions are open for these works.
