Both the OECD and the IEA seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-members of growing importance to the world economy.

The Energy Demand Outlook team's main publication is the annual World Energy Outlook (WEO) report. This report, produced each year, provides an assessment of the medium
- and long-term prospects for energy markets worldwide and their broader implications. The aim of the report is to provide policymakers, industry, academia, and civil society alike with a rigorous quantitative framework to deepen understanding of the drivers of possible future energy trends and evaluating the impact of government policies to tackle energy-related challenges. The WEO includes regular updates on several areas of critical importance to energy and climate trends such as achieving universal energy access, security of supply, and affordability. In addition, the WEO series also comprises regional focuses and stand-alone publications.


Role


The Young Associate would report directly to one of the team leads within in the Tracking Sustainable Transitions Unit at the IEA, focusing on developing new energy policy mapping, and integrating those into the IEA's demand-side modelling.

Their work will cover specific energy technologies and geographies, based on the needs for WEO special reports, as decided by the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Chief Energy Modeller.

The Young Associate will contribute to the substantive policy output of the Directorate producing the IEA flagship publication World Energy Outlook by assisting with research and co-ordination tasks and other projects that may be assigned by the hiring manager.

As an integral part of the World Energy Outlook team the Young Associate will work with the Chief Energy Modeller, a team of modellers and analysts.


Main Responsibilities

  • Compilation of data and policies on energy, clean energy transitions, climate and development as part of the World Energy Outlook analyses and other related publications.
  • Working closely with the lead analysts in the division, contribute to activities such as drafting working papers and reports, analysis, external and internal consultation and results dissemination.
  • Working closely with colleagues, contribute to WEO analysis and modelling and support teamwork and cooperation.
  • The organisation of meetings and workshop related to WEO publications.
  • Work in the fields of energy access, sustainable development goals and clean energy transitions.
  • Assisting with answers to queries, preparation of graphs, tables, and presentations as required.
  • Support crossagency activities, including for instance, the organisation of highlevel events.
Academic Background

  • Course work in at least one of the following areas is required: statistics, quantitative analysis, and econometrics.
  • Coursework relating to engineering or economics is preferred and to energy or public policy is desirable.

Skills:


  • Good understanding of energy sector dynamics.
  • Excellent quantitative skills and proven analytical abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and a knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the other.
