Chair of Transdisciplinary New Media


Interviews will start in June 2024 and continue until the position is filled, with an expected start date as early as August, 2024 and as late as January 2025.


Responsibilities

GENERAL

  • Respond to general requests from the PCA administration (staff meetings, accreditation visits, etc.) and participate in campus life
  • Meet with PCA guests to present the department

ACADEMIC

  • Serve as Academic Advisor for students in the department
  • Mentor and provide pastoral care to the students
  • Be familiar with the required curriculum for each degree as well as other classes offered at PCA as electives
  • Ensure all advisees have registered into correct courses to meet degree requirements
  • Remind students of deadlines for Add/Drop and Withdrawal and process forms to be submitted to the Registrar in a timely manner
  • Regularly review the curriculum to ensure that it enables students to meet the determined learning outcomes, propose changes as necessary and recruit relevant and qualified faculty
  • Organize workshops, field trips and other extracurricular events as appropriate
  • Organize end of semester critiques in December and May, and degree project critiques with external jury members in May. The May critique is typically scheduled at an offcampus location and requires coordination for installation and deinstallation with other PCA degrees.
  • Participate in midterm and end of semester academic committees, as necessary
  • Attend PCA chairs meetings (approximately every three weeks during the academic year

MANAGEMENT

  • In collaboration with the Chair of Film Art and the Chair of Photography, oversee the shared equipment hub staff
  • Oversee workstudy students assigned to the department (e.g., social media, exhibitions, etc.)
  • Oversee designated classrooms and spaces
  • Recruit, review and serve as the point of contact for all instructors in the program

ADMINISTRATION

  • Manage the departmental budget
  • Process purchasing and invoices from workshop facilitators, guest lectures, etc.
  • Prepare departmental reports for accreditation purposes
  • Prepare and participate in College Council each semester
  • Attend general faculty meetings each semester
  • Collaborate with Admissions staff for Open House and other recruitment events as well as by maintaining an active social media presence for the program

Qualifications
- hold a terminal graduate degree (MFA or PhD),
- demonstrate a track-record of excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and enthuse students and faculty,
- have excellent written and spoken proficiency in English and working knowledge of French,
- have teaching experience at the graduate level, preferably in a US-accredited institution
- be actively engaged in artistic and / or scholarly production.
