OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:


The World Health Organization's Academy ('The Academy') is a new state-of-the-art learning institution that aims to revolutionize lifelong learning for health impact and reach million learners around the world.

Based in Lyon, France, the Academy Campus will offer a wide range of learning modalities (on-line, face-to-face and blended); digital, in-person learning via the hub in Lyon or through the campus network, as well as portable learning laboratories designed for contexts where participants cannot travel or access the digital learning platform.

The Academy is an integral part of the WHO under the management authority of the Director-General.

The overall goal of the Academy is to advance the learning and human development component of WHO's General Programme of Work (GPW) and health sustainable development goals.


More specifically the Academy will:

enhance the competencies of millions of people through cutting-edge digital learning and hybrid learning, including leaders, practitioners, catalysts and lay people.

The WHO Academy will deliver advanced digital and in-person learning to, health policy practitioners, health workers and WHO workforce.

The Academy is a global initiative combining the latest technologies in digital and remote learning with advancements in adult learning science to offer innovative, personalized and multilingual learning that meets priority needs.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:


The incumbent will carry out the following duties:

  • Guides and oversees the implementation of the communication plan.
  • Leads the planning and implementation of communications around report launches, new technical guidance, corporate events and public health advocacy campaigns for the WHO Academy.
  • Develops narrative and key messages for internal and external stakeholders to promote the work of the WHO Academy.
  • Produces and commissions communications products (including news releases and opeds; web features, Q+As and other materials; videos and social media assets; campaign web pages) to promote WHO Academy's work and convey important public health messaging.
  • Working closely with the media team, plans media events, providing spokesperson briefings, arranging interviews when required, and ensuring that media enquiries receive timely and accurate responses.
  • Partners with other Units and Teams across the Department of Communications to ensure alignment, timeliness, quality and innovative approaches to communications products.
  • Ensures alignment and consistency with WHO communication strategy.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:


Essential:

An advanced level university degree in communications, journalism or related field.


Desirable:

Knowledge of public health and international relations.


Experience:


Essential:


  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in communications or journalism.
  • Demonstrated experience in health communications.
  • Experience in developing and implementing communications content and strategies.
  • Demonstrated relevant experience at international level.

Desirable:


  • Experience producing content for radio/TV broadcasting and the web, including photos, videos and social media.
  • Experience working with WHO or other UN Agencies.

Skills:


  • Sound news and features writing skills.
  • Proven ability to project manage, multitask, prioritize, research and write to short deadlines.
  • Sound advocacy skills complemented by the ability to plan and evaluate situations and propose innovative communications options.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical field and access to medicines issues.
