Description

We are looking for a Group leader of Magnets to manage the activities of the magnet group and supervise the detailed design, construction, testing, assembly and operation of the high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet systems, together with their support structures and feeders, while fulfilling the requirements on time, cost and quality.


You main responsibilities will be:

Design & analysis

  • Coordinate the design and analysis of the HTS magnet systems in collaboration with other groups (cryogenics, vacuum, electrical, etc.)
  • Lead the development of technical solutions for the design of the windings, joints, current leads and cooling systems, definition of materials and assessment of interfaces to the other neighbouring components, development of instrumentation requirements, etc.
  • Define the R&D activities and required qualifications to validate the design by taking into account the construction/assembly processes and techniques
  • Manage the interfaces with other design and engineering groups: the vessel & thermal shield teams, system engineering, electrical/electronic engineers, vacuum/cryostat engineers, and others as required
  • Coordinate the detailed design of the HTS magnet systems with their support structures and feeder lines, and their integration in the machine
  • Supervise the writing of technical documentations, specifications and quality assurance documents in accordance to RF guidelines
  • Supervise the analysis work and assess the results
Manufacturing/Assembly/Testing

  • Supervise the inhouse or outsourced construction of magnet components, support structures, feeders and cooling/instrumentation, as well as their their assembly and integration in the machine
  • Coordinate the selection of subcontractors and monitor cost and schedule with the PMO
  • Supervise the testing and commissioning activities
Team management

  • Be the ambassador of Renaissance Fusion's vision within his/her team, and promote its culture, values (speed, simplicity, fantastic realism, constructive interference and unified force) and policies.

  • Ensure that his/her team is motivated to achieve its objectives.

Scientific outcome

  • Coordinate the writing, review and approval of patents and scientific papers.
  • Prepare scientific reports (presentations, posters, etc.) and represent RF to scientific conferences and workshops.
  • Remain on the lookout for any scientific developments in his/her field of expertise.

You are the ideal profile if:
Education and professional experience

  • PhD or Master's degree + equivalent experience in mechanical engineering, electromechanical or related field
  • Previous experience in the superconductor/magnet industry or hightech laboratories would be a plus
  • 8+ years of experience in magnet engineering and/or analysis and/or construction
  • Experience as a technical leader/coordinator and/or project management is a plus
Language requirements

  • Fluent in English (C1/C2)
  • Knowledge (B1 or higher) of French is a plus
Technical competencies

  • Competence with SolidWorks or ANSYS or COMSOL or other computational software.
  • Project management from design to assembly
  • Previous experience in management of design activities, manufacturing contracts and assembly, preferably on superconducting magnet design and construction
