Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks under the guidance of the U4E Programme Management Officer:
A


Project Management:

  • Ensure professional implementation of existing U4E projects consistent with the original proposals, including ECOWAS Refrigerators and Air Conditioners initiative in Ghana and Senegal; the Rwanda Cooling Initiative; Sustainable Public Procurement in Egypt, and others as assigned.
  • Ensure the proper design and thorough implementation, including resource allocation and donor reporting, of the upcoming Abating GHG Emissions from Obsolete RAC Equipment in West Africa (AGORA) project in Ghana and Nigeria.
  • Carefully prepare and review project deliverables to ensure highquality and timeliness consistent with U4E priorities, ensuring that partners receive work products following a thorough check of the technical content, spelling and grammar, and proper formatting (using current templates, where applicable).
  • Develop and maintain workplans (putting into practice project management concepts) to track progress, activities' implementation, facilitate smooth coordination with fellow team members and external partners and plan ahead for pending deadlines.
  • Organize and participate in regular calls and chats and use shared files (MS Teams and SharePoint) for efficient communications and transparency, providing timely notes and followup from meetings.
  • Proactively identify possible emerging challenges and propose remedies for consideration by the team for effective risk assessment and mitigation.
B. Fundraising

  • Identify at least 3 funding opportunities informed by U4E priorities and experience with donors based on upcoming formal calls for proposals or creating new, bespoke opportunities.
  • Refine at least 1 existing U4E proposal which has been submitted and is pending approval based on donor feedback and inquiries, in collaboration with coapplicants.
C. Policy Analysis, Training and Outreach

  • Research background information, draft and edit technical content, and format and design (consistent with UN style manual) materials for use in presentations, reports, and other information products.
  • Maintain an archive of project documents for ready reference and institutional memory, utilising established U4E systems and protocols, and proposing possible innovations to enhance operations.
  • Facilitate information sharing and transfer of knowledge by documenting lessons learned and other relevant content (e.g. templates, photos, guidance), developing content, making logistics arrangements, identifying invitees, sending invitations, conducting and followingup (e.g. post session surveys, workshop reports or similar) from capacity building sessions for target audiences.
  • Develop and deliver communications content in partnership with U4E and UNEP communications specialists, project partners and donors for use on social media, websites, webinars, newsletters and inperson events.
  • Contribute to the development of U4E tools, guides, case studies and other content, as assigned.
  • Support other U4E programmatic needs as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills


An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent additional experience) in environmental science, public policy, engineering or similar fields germane to market transformation projects in the energy efficiency, cooling and cold-chain domains.

At least 8 years of professional experience as a project manager on clean energy or environmental projects, of which at least 5 years entails sustainable energy policies, programmes and technologies

Experience working with international organizations and developing and emerging economy contexts is required.


Practical experience with development assistance projects in developing and emerging economies, preferably in Africa, and associated network of pertinent expert contacts.

Thorough project management experience.

Experience with cooling and cold chain solutions is a major asset.


Key Competencies:

  • Experience in developing and building coalitions to support new activities.
  • Robust interpersonal skills in collaborating with a diverse team and ability to adapt under pressure to meet varying needs as a project and local circumstances evolve.
  • Familiarity with market transformation solutions such as MEPS, labels, financial mechanisms, market monitoring verification and enforcement, and/or endofproduct life collection and recycling is an asset.
