Responsibilities:


In order to raise awareness of the importance of green investment/loans to real property, the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC - hosted by UNEP) and the UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP-FI) are collaborating on capacity building for commercial banks to accelerate finance for sustainable buildings and construction.

In this context, an international consultant with knowledge, networks and expertise in the development and financing of green buildings is needed to support UNEP/GlobalABC and UNEP-FI.

The consultant will work in close collaboration with GlobalABC's Work Area on Finance.


The purpose of the assignment is to support the development of training materials on green buildings for the UNEP FI energy efficiency capacity building programme targeted at commercial banking institutions, and produce a guidance paper for commercial banking institutions that summarizes the content of the training materials and points to additional resources.

The consultant will work in close collaboration with UNEP/GlobalABC and UNEP FI experts.

The output is expected to focus on how banks can contribute to the implementation of the GlobalABC roadmap (including regional roadmaps).

The targeted participants in the bank sector are mid-level senior experts and team leads of sustainability, ESG, sustainable finance, etc.


The contents of the presentation should be aimed at entry-level for those in the bank sector, which includes but are not limited to; global energy and emission trend in buildings and construction, zero emissions building, whole life carbon/circularity, embodied/operational carbon, green building certificates, green investment/loans, green building market, etc.


The breadth and quality of work will be monitored by the project team members (UNEP/GlobalABC and UNEP-FI) with whom the consultant will be working on a day to day basis and assessed by his/her supervisor through his/her submission and approval of deliverables.


The consultant will conduct the following activities:
(1) Under the guidance of UNEP/GlobalABC (and in close collaboration with GlobalABC's Work Area on Finance) and UNEP FI, develop a comprehensive training presentation focussing on green buildings for commercial and mortgage banks. This presentation should focus on how banks can contribute to the implementation of GlobalABC's roadmaps for buildings and construction. The trainings will be held virtually and also possibly in person.

a.

Collect the most relevant resources on zero-emissions, energy-efficient and resilient buildings and construction, as well as sustainable banking practices for the buildings/real estate sector.

b. Develop an outline for the presentation.
c. Develop the entire presentation in PowerPoint with around 30 slides.

(2) Produce a guidance paper for commercial banking institutions that summarizes the content of the training materials and points to additional resources. The report should focus on how banks can contribute to the implementation of UNEP/GlobalABC roadmaps for buildings and construction, and net-zero scenarios for Buildings and Construction.

Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in architecture, engineering, economics, environmental or social sciences.

A first-level university degree, in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

A Ph.
D. in a field related to sustainable buildings and construction is a plus.
Professional experience related to the buildings and construction sector, climate change, energy efficiency, and sustainable finance.
Prior experience or exposure to working with international organizations is desirable.

Languages
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
