We are searching for a Material Development & Laboratory manager to join our Liquids and Lotions team.

The Liquids and lotions / Skin Care team delivers chemical formulation products and product solutions across our business areas in close cooperation with suppliers, innovation teams and other appropriate parties.


The Mat Dev & Lab manager is responsible for leading the material development in the area of Liquids and Lotions, i.e.

cosmetic formulations, functional chemical coatings or chemical additives, and managing a team of technicians. The role will be located in Kunheim (France).


Main Tasks and responsibilities

1/ As material development manager (1/2 time):

Participate in projects in different levels, as an internal consultant, project manager or project team member.


Recommend suitable materials or chemical formulations to innovation projects and other material related activities, such as material rationalization and quality improvements.

Lead the development of new and existing materials in close cooperation with suppliers and internal stakeholders. Initiate and lead material development activities in the Liquids and Lotions area to propose new and innovative solutions for the R&D program and improve state of readiness for future Innovation projects

Build and maintain a broad and deep competence within the Liquids and Lotions area.

Actively work to patent new material solutions and participate in patent watch teams.

Own and establish material specifications in development phase for the Liquids and Lotions area.


2/ as laboratory manager (1/2 time):


The L&L Manager is responsible for securing laboratory competence and resources to support innovation projects and to support the business units on agreed initiatives, in coordination with project managers in the field of formulation, fragrances, and additives.

The L&L Laboratory Manager is further responsible for securing the production of reliable and valid laboratory test results and analyses.

He is also in charge of the required development of new and existing materials in close cooperation with suppliers or other appropriate internal and external parties.


  • Lead, develop and optimize the laboratory staff of L&L formulation and microbiology labs
  • Plan and lead the laboratory work within set frames and budget and in accordance with prescribed launch plan requirements.
  • Proactively monitor and maintain agreed performance, methods, regulatory and safety compliance, as well as work quality
  • Create conditions and implement tools and processes for laboratory engineers/technicians to execute tasks in an effective and efficient way.
  • Secure reliable and valid laboratory methods and equipment.
  • Safeguard delivery of trustworthy and traceable laboratory results by securing that procedures and instructions are validated
  • Keep abreast of developments of laboratory processes, procedures and practices to ensure appropriate methods are adopted and implemented within own area. Secures reliable and valid laboratory methods and equipment.

Required Education and Experience
University Degree within relevant practice (such as chemistry or pharmacy) with a proven strong knowledge in cosmetic formulations and/or surface chemistry

Experience in relevant technical field, ideally 5years or more of experience from both R&D and people' s management.

International exposure.

Leadership and networking skills, internally as well as with external suppliers.


Key competencies
Profound knowledge in the chemical formulation area as well as in relevant products and technologies.

Good understanding of the material and product development process from consumer insights to launch, including project management experience.

Ability to understand stakeholder requirements, operational limitations and business opportunities.

Ability to lead, engage and influence others - internally as well as externally.

Action oriented. Pursue opportunities with energy, drive and a need to finish. Can effectively cope with change and shift gears comfortably.

Strategic mindset and ability to translate strategy into actions.
