Position:
Mechanical Sizing Engineer
We are looking for a mechanical sizing engineer to join one of our agile multi-disciplinary teams in charge of the development of the stages of the Maia Launch Vehicle.
In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical justification of pressurized and/or non-pressurized structures, mainly metallic, from the preliminary design to testing and flight-worthiness justification.
Responsibilities:
Perform preliminary sizing of the main structures of the stage using analytical or simple finite element analysis to support architecture choices.
Elaborate the load specification document based on stage life phases, functional data, thermal, dynamic, and flight loads. Calculate local equipment loads using analytical or finite element models. Define sizing worklogics consistent with the project maturity and contribute to the overall stage development logic. Perform analytical or finite element analysis to support design, optimization, and justification of structures. Ensure consistency in mechanical calculations of various structures of the stage.Perform simulations, analyze results, and combine load cases to be consistent with stage life phases during integration, transport, or in flight.
Justify stage bolted junctions. Identify main contributors and perform sensitivity studies. Write mechanical justification files. Propose and define mechanical test plans, participate in tests, exploit test results, and update company knowledge database accordingly. Contribute to the treatment of production anomalies.Specific Competences & Abilities:
Skills:
Strong knowledge and experience in structural mechanics, finite element modeling and analysis, programming languages (Python, VBA), metallic material properties, and manufacturing processes
Qualification:
Mechanical engineering degree (+5 years post-Baccalaureate) ideally specialized in sizing and mechanical justification. At least 4/5 years of experience would be appreciated.
