(Senior) Risk Officer - Equity Unit

Purpose
In addition to its well-known Loan activity, the EIB also provides Venture Debt and makes Investments in Equity and Debt Funds with a focus on i) Infrastructure and/or Climate Action or ii) private sector development and/or pursuing social impact goals mainly outside the EU. We also engage in equity and hybrid debt co-investments with top ranked funds and investment partners.


As (Senior) Risk Officer in the Equity Unit, you will contribute to these high impact areas, as you independently analyse, from a financial and contractual perspective, new equity and quasi-equity transactions and post-signature events, to assess and quantify investment/credit risks and to develop appropriate mitigants and controls for EIB's new and existing equity and quasi-equity transactions, to ensure the quality of EIB's assets.


Operating Network


Reporting to the Head of the Equity Unit, you will work in close cooperation with the other Unit and Division members.

You will also have extensive interactions with colleagues in Risk Management and other Directorates.

You will be expected to work on several projects in parallel with a large degree of autonomy.


Accountabilities

  • Independently assess the investment/credit risk of proposed transactions, prepare concise risk opinions and recommendations, and determine associated risk ratings and pricing (where applicable)
  • Deal with investment/credit risk related enquiries from within the Bank, analyse complex investment proposals and provide advice and solutions to structure and mitigate risks in equity and quasi equity transactions
  • Monitor the financial quality of a portfolio of investments
  • Extensively collaborate with other project team members (i.e. in the Front Office, in Portfolio Management, in Legal and in the Bank's technical Projects Directorate, home to our inhouse engineers and sector economists)
  • Review and sign off on legal documentation from a credit standpoint
  • Review and validate key post signature events including restructurings
  • Proactively advise and present recommendations on complex investment/credit risk issues and related policy initiatives for investment/credit risk management, aligning the EIB with best banking practices
  • Check the quality and correctness of credit risk related information/data input into various IT systems. Develop and improve procedures, support and control systems, IT systems, methodologies and working tools
  • Provide guidance to more junior staff in the execution of investment/credit risk processes

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor), preferably in Finance or a businessrelated field. Post graduate education and/or recognised financial qualifications, such as CFA, would be an advantage
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, including a strong expertise in financial analysis and/or financial modelling
  • Exposure to venture debt and/or private debt/equity funds would be preferred. Other relevant experience in the structuring, risk assessment, and/or negotiation of equity/quasiequity products or structured transactions (high yield/sub investment grade debt, subordinated/junior debt financing, LBOs, assetbacked transactions or restructuring) would be an asset. Treasurer experience in an earlystage company could also be considered
  • Experience in reviewing and commenting on loan and/or security documentation would be a strong advantage
  • Experience in credit/equity risk policy development would be an asset
  • Solid understanding of the EIB policy and objectives
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (*) with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.

Competencies
- (*) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of _level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The Bank offers appropriate training support._ _
