The PIT Lab, a new BASF unit located on the WEurope platform, is an R&D laboratory on a human scale that brings production workshops closer to the BASF Group's global research force.

As an R&D engineer, you will join a small team of 10 people and your mission will be to optimize adipic acid production technologies and processes.

To do this, you will work in tandem with an R&D technician, developing projects and test campaigns at bench and pilot levels, in a laboratory for which you will share responsibility.

You will complement your expertise by working closely with our experts in Ludwigshafen, Germany, to offer comprehensive solutions to both internal and external customers.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting directly to the Head of the Laboratory, you mainly carry out the following missions:

Management and implementation of R&D projects and test campaigns:

  • You develop R&D projects in an integral way from the detection of opportunity, to the delivery of deliverables,
  • You design and carry out various experimental protocols, at benchtop and pilot scales, in strict compliance with safety protocols,
  • You carry out data recording, analysis and synthesis of results,
  • You write the reports and develop the various documents necessary for the communication of the results,
  • You ensure the safeguarding of information and the preservation of the group's intellectual property,
  • You ensure the efficient management of consumables, orders and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment under your responsibility,
  • You ensure that QHSE instructions are strictly followed.

Active technology watch:


  • You ensure a technological watch and develop your field of expertise and that of the team around you,
  • You contribute to the detection of opportunities for process improvement and optimization, meeting the strategic needs of adipic acid production workshops,
  • You propose, develop and participate in the validation and industrialization of technical solutions that meet the group's technological challenges.

Managing your team:


  • You ensure the management of a laboratory technician and contribute to the development of his skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduated with a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Process Engineering, you ideally have at least 5 years of experience in the chemical industry or in a research laboratory focused on monomer production processes,
  • The following appetencies strongly reasonate in you: taste for challenge and questioning of the status quo, creative and with a great capacity for conceptualization, constructive criticism and federation of skills,
  • You demonstrate your experience in the construction of new pilot units, including all stages of a project in accordance with PMI's international standards and the development of associated technical procedures.
  • You have ideally worked on oxidation and/or reduction processes of aromatic species, including multiphase reactors of CSTR, BCR and/or RBF,
  • You master the computer tools necessary for the development of plans and models (Autocad, SolidEdge), the development of DoE and their statistical interpretation (Minitab), the simulation and scaleup of processes (ChemCad, Aspen),
  • You know the health and safety rules specific to chemical risk and you know how to develop risk matrices, HAZOP and What If reviews,
  • You have a very good level of English and have at least some knowledge of French.
