A Guide" and Consular Strategy.
Roles and responsibilities:
Primarily responsible for administering and delivering consular services in Mauritius.
This role primarily involves the administration of Citizenship Ceremonies to residents of Mauritius, and a small number in Seychelles, who have successfully applied to register as a British citizen.
Ceremonies are joyful occasions where applicants swear their oath to the United Kingdom, and celebrate their connection to the UK.
The jobholder will attend, and occasionally perform citizenship ceremonies with the wider team, working closely with internal stakeholders effectively to administer and ensure quality delivery.
The successful jobholder will form an essential part of the Mauritius British High Commission (BHC) team, and will occasionally support wider consular activity, such as processing Emergency Travel Documents.

Consular Services:
Citizenship (90%)
- Receiving, organising and distributing documentation relating to applicants in Mauritius, Seychelles and Rodrigues obtaining UK citizenship.
- Liaising with Residence and other colleagues regarding availability, location and timing of ceremonies.
- Liaising and problem solving with consular colleagues and UK government departments relating to applicants obtaining UK citizenship.
- Issuing invitations, monitoring RSVPs and preparing documentation for ceremonies.
- Attending, and occasionally performing, ceremonies at the High Commission in Mauritius and potentially occasionally in Rodrigues.
- Managing and accurately recording information and associated activity on consular case management systems and MS Excel.
Consular Services:
General (10%)
- Print Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) and assist the ETD Centre with processing.
- Provide standard consular information to customers.
- Provide support to the consular team in responding to a consular crisis.
- When required, manage, update and distribute documents and information between UK and Mauritian government departments.
- Contribute to maintaining fundamental consular prevention tools such as lists of funeral directors and lawyers.
- Strong IT, literacy and numeracy skills (including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook) is essential.
- Strong organisational and office management skills.
- Excellent customer service skills; ability to respond to a range of customer needs and develop positive relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Excellent allround communication skills to manage customer expectations.
- Strong problem solving skills using own judgement.
