Description

POSITION:
Research Engineer for 12 months in France, experienced in UAV programming

We are searching for a research engineer with a minimum master's degree obtained during the last two years in one of these disciplines.

We are not limited to any discipline. For example, people from various backgrounds, such as Computer
Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, can also apply.

However, implementing UAV programming requires experience because the project deals with a 'Fleet of autonomous drones' serving in mass evacuation in case of disasters.

This is a sub-project of a 3-year grant funded by the _
RENNES MÉTROPOLE_ on "
Operations Models and Artificial

Intelligence to Manage Disasters," led by me and
Prof. Yann Busnel from IRISA (Research Institute of Computer Science and Random Systems), IMT Atlantique, Rennes Campus.

Employer:
Rennes School of Business

Location:

IMT Atlantique University, internationally recognized for the quality of its research, is a leading general engineering school in the Ministry of Industry and Digital Technologies and is ranked in the main international rankings.

Located on 3 campuses (Brest, Nantes and Rennes), IMT Atlantique aims to Combine digital technology and energy to transform society and industry through training, research and innovation.

You will work in the Training and Research

Department in "Networking, Cybersecurity and Digital Law and Digital Law" (SRCD) and, more specifically, with the SOTER research team of the UMR Irisa.

Partner institution:
Rennes School of Business.

A private higher education institution, Rennes School of Business, is an international management school located in Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany, whose mission is to prepare, through teaching and research, responsible and innovative managers to act effectively in a globalized environment.

A unique faculty distinguishes Rennes SB, with 95% of permanent international professors representing 40 nationalities. Join Rennes

School of Business is the assurance that you will be able to experience the diverse management practices in different parts of the world and develop essential skills for innovation, innovation, and business development.

Mission of the position

Context:

The objective of this R&D work is to implement algorithms for the coordination of a fleet of drones to be able to of drones, to observe in real conditions the theoretical proposals made in the framework of the chair "Operational models and artificial intelligence for disaster management," funded by Rennes Metropole.

The objective of this chair is to provide decision-makers (public organizations, governments, cities, etc.) with decision support tools (mathematical models, decision support systems, software) to deal with natural disasters (including pandemics/epidemics) and man-made disasters (including technological disasters).

We will propose solutions based on distributed algorithms and real-time data processing regarding natural and technological disasters.

In particular, we use artificial intelligence to ensure near-optimal solutions to the problems raised (e.g., location and rescue of victims, distribution of victims, distribution of aid, etc.).

Furthermore, for human, natural and technological disasters, we aim to develop artificial intelligence models using drones to save human lives in case of disaster.

Tasks:
Decentralization and hybridization of distributed systems have given rise to edge and fog computing. At the same time, artificial intelligence and self-adaptive mechanisms have enabled great progress in the autonomy of networks.

In work carried out within this chair, the person recruited will study self-organization requirements, where local decisions lead to globally consistent system behavior.

Based on recent results of the existing teams, the primary objective will be to implement a self-organizing distributed algorithm for post-disaster target discovery using autonomous drones.

In the second step, the objective will be to participate in the development of an innovative solution to manage the evacuation of an urban area after a natural disaster, using several drones to drones to estimate the number and movement of pedestrians or vehicles, using methods derived from artificial intelligence.

Profile sought:

Holder of a recent engineering or master degree (<2 years).

Required skills:

  • Strong technical expertise: o Knowledge of drone programming; o Knowledge of nextgeneration wireless network communication; o Knowledge of artificial intelligence models for decision support.
  • Government online training for recreational pilots is required. Additionally, professional telepilot certification will be
Professional Telepilot certification will be required (can be done at the beginning of the contract).

  • Curiosity and motivation to work in a dynamic research environment
  • Dynamism and strength of the proposal
  • Willingness and participation in the team
